Alright… I have a call into the Dr but he is out today… and it really isn’t a rush… so I don’t need to talk to the other Dr’s in his practice… but my nanny (bless her heart) keeps asking me to call the Dr… Seth has dropped a lot of oz in a day (this a new thing over the last few days as he use to eat as much as his bro, or maybe just an oz or two less)… he has almost 8oz less than his identical brother (yesterdays example, Nathan had 32oz Seth 24oz)… now if he just ate 2oz less each feeding I may be ok with it… but it’s like almost 5oz one feeding and 3 the other… and that’s after 45 min trying to get him to eat… and he isn’t starving at the next feeding… he just doesn’t seem hungry lately… I make him eat all 8 of his night time bottle, and by “make him” I will just take the time to get it all in… last night it took an hour and 15 min, and 12 hours later, he only drank 7oz in the AM… he left an oz… he did spit up a couple times yesterday… but for the most part he doesn’t spit up much or at all… I don’t know how much but Nathan clearly weighs more, and Nathan wears 6-9m cloths and I can still fit Seth in 3-6 (the length is the only reason Seth will grow out of 3-6m soon). He doesn’t act like it hurts… he just plays with the nipple and lets the milk fill his moth and then lets it run out of the corner of his mouth, he is all smiles… do any of you experienced mom have insight on why this may be?

I even keep reminding myself they are two different people, stop comparing… but as my Nanny pointed out… Seth use to take 30-32oz a day… now he’s down to 24 forced

If you got this far THANK YOU! :hug99: if you reply... BLESS YOU :bow2:

At 7 months mine became very distracted. G consistently still eats quite a bit less than L. I worry about it, but they seem ok. We were BF at that point so I can't say the difference in ounces. Also, teething always makes my girls take less. Could he be teething? Mine cut teeth at totally different times. A call to the ped isn't a bad idea, but I bet everything is fine.

It wouldn't hurt to call the pedi and ask, but my girls go through phases where they eat like crazy for a few days and then sometimes we have a few days where they just aren't very interested in eating.

If he's gaining weight, I wouldn't worry. Mine both ate between 20-24 oz. until very recently! Now they eat about 28 oz. You might also want to see if a faster flow nipple works. He may just be getting frustrated.

My DS is 3 months old & is doing the same thing. He keeps pushing the bottle out with his tongue like it's all a big game. This morning he only ate 1/2 oz at 6am & only 2 oz at 9am (& he usually eats 4 oz each feeding), so you think he'd be starving but he seems as happy as can be. I took him to the dr yesterday & he couldn't find anything wrong. He thinks that DS is just more interested into looking around & checking out his environment than eating. So we're just keeping an eye on him & if he starts losing a lot of weight or seems sick, I'm to bring him back in. In the meantime, I'm trying to hold him close to me when I feed him & attempt to remove all distractions so he will just focus on eating. And I'm giving him 30 minutes to eat & if he doesn't, then he's done. The dr says that he'll eat when he's hungry & I'm just hoping that'll be soon! DS has always been my really good eater, even though he's smaller than DD, so this not eating thing is really frustrating!

Oh the feeding battles. My girls were notorious to do this to me. One week one of them would eat really good and then they would flip the next week. My girls are also identical and for the life of me I thought that also meant they should eat the same and I guess it doesn't work that way. They always gained weight, and I would think that one of them was bigger than the other and when I would take them to the pedi they would weigh within 2oz of each other. I would ask the pedi but I bet he is just going through a phase. Maybe you will be lucky like me and your boys will not get attached to their bottles and you will be able to throw them away without any trouble. Good luck and hope your little one starts eating more.

We had this issue and a faster flow nipple solved the problem.

    Good idea!

Also he might be distracted. can you or your nanny feed him in a dimly lit quiet room and see if he'll eat more? GL!

One of my sons does this at daycare and has since 3 mo old. He is just so easily distracted he won't take the time to eat. After worrying about it for a couple of months I finally realized he was still gaining weight and is fine. He would eat more at home than his brother and now he eats more solids. He's also gotten a little better now but she says it's still a chore to feed him.

When we had this issue a while back I went up to med flow nipple and it solved it… but my nanny just told me that when she changed his diaper it was black and smell bad … worse than any others… and now he just had two freak outs for about 5 min each were he acted like he was in pain (that has NEVER happened)… maybe his milk is going bad because sometimes he goes over an hour from start to finish in the evening… so I think THIS time might be something else… but previously I think the easily distracted might be the reason… thanks ladies...

I'd call the pedi and talk to the person covering just to make sure. :hug99:

will do... and how do i get THAT gig w/ a 2 hr lunch...

My Nanny’s theory is his milk is going bad, because in the evening I will go well over an hr to make sure he gets the whole 8oz (it has been as long as an hour 45 min)… and he’s been doing this distracted eating “thing” for 2 weeks (on and off), so maybe his tummy can’t take it any more… we have decided he get 30 min and that’s it even if he’s only had 2 oz…. but the fact he had a bad diaper. I want to see or talk to the Dr

Thank you again... i am so glad you guys are here or i would be freaking out as much as Seth...

Are you feeding EBM or formula. It really shouldn't matter though. Milk shouldn't go bad in an hour.

Thank you everyone… they think he just has a tummy bug and suggested splitting up his bottle so if he only drink 5-6 oz I don’t waist a whole 8oz bottle… and that 24oz is acceptable amount for 3 m and that Nathans 32-34 is just A LOT…she said if he has another black poop she wants a sample asap and gave me a culture pack to use… he’s in better sprits now, and of course just drank 8oz… so I will just watch his poop and make sure he doesn’t develop a fever… again thank you ladies for your support… you kept me from letting my head spin out of control

Thanks for the update. It was good that you got him in today (for your piece of mind) and I hope his little tummy feels better soon.

    Glad everything turned out okay.

Just wanted to add that things got a little crazy when I would give them more time to feed. I was always worried about getting all the ounces in them but that back fired on me. I never really allowed them to get hungry as I was giving them so much time to eat. Once I stopped that (30 minutes tops to eat) things are MUCH better.
