Feeding - how many times a day? And HOW do you do it?

I am having a freak out again about my kids feeding. IF they sleep through the night (which we haven't mastered) I figure they'll only feed 4 maybe 5 times a day and that doesn't seem like enough. What's typical ... can I find this information anywhere?

We are just introducing solids now and I am having troubles with trying to get through everything and figuring out IF we go out somewhere how do I manage to feed them?

We were doing 5 bottles a day til about a week ago, then I dropped one because they just weren't hungry after 3 hours anymore. So...8,12,4,7, are the bottle times. Then they get 3 meals a day, about 1-1.5 hours after their bottles. Thier bottles are 7oz, most of the time they drink 6. As far as food goes, I just feed them til they seem full or uninterested. They eat puffs at some point, usually twice, during the day. I am going to add some other chunkier foods here shortly, I think they are ready.

We were stuck on every 2.5 hours for quite some time. So, when we no longer fed them at night, and hadn't mastered naps and early bedtime...we still had 6 bottles a day. Then I cut one out when they started to get food. Then I tried to make them take more ounces so they could drop another and we had spit up city, so I waited. Then tried again probably 2 months ago and we are finally down to 3 bottles. Thank goodness. I am soooo ready to move on to sippy cup he]].

To finish answering your ?....here is a link that shows a good chart on how much they should eat at a certain age.

As far as going places....I have no choice but to feed them on the go sometimes....it's doable! [IMG]

See I think I am doing this all wrong. Becky5 - what is your schedule of your day then? It seems like if the kids are up for more than 1.5/2 hours after they are up from their naps (IF they take one) that they are too tired/cranky for solids. I am so confused I can't stand it!

Mine are a little younger than the other posts; however, this is kind of what our day looks like . . . give or take! Of course this is like an ideal day.

    7:00-7:30 Wake and bottle (7-8oz)
    9:00 Nap (2 hours)
    11:00 Play
    11:30 Bottle (6-7 oz)
    Play
    1:00-1:30 2nd Nap (1 hour)
    Play
    3:30 Bottle (6-7 oz)
    Play
4:30 3rd nap (30 mins. if at all)
    Play
5:30 Dinner (Rice Cereal and 1 Vegetable)
    Play and/or Baby Einstein
7:00 Bedtime Routine (bath, massage, pjs)
    7:30 Bottle (6-7 oz)
Off to bed when finished with bottle

My DD will often only drink 5 oz at each feeding. I've never had big eaters. My ped. said he wants her to get a MINIMUM of 16 oz per day.
I need to work in a morning meal in the next week or so.

I've had to feed them on the go. It is a lot of work; however, doable!

At 3 months old, mine slept 12-13 hours at night, and ate 4 8oz. bottles a day. At 7 months, they were on 3 solid meals, and 3 8oz. bottles a day.

Here's what we did when introducing solids...

    6:30 wake
    7:30 bottle 8oz
    8:30 solids 1oz fruit 1oz cereal
    9:00 nap
    10:00 play
    11:30 bottle 8oz
    12:30 nap
    2:30 wake
    3:30 bottle 8oz
    4:00 cat nap
    4:30 play
    5:00 solids 1oz veggie 1oz cereal
    5:30 bath
    6:00 bottle 8oz
    6:30 bed

I will have you know that my kids RARELY ever finish the whole bottle that they are/were offered....

How 'bout you help me with naps...we are a mess there! [IMG]I generally put them down after their solids...most of the time 2 longer naps and a catnap.

    8am bottle
    9 solids
    930 nap
    12 bottle
    1 solids
    130 nap
    4 bottle
    5 solids
    530 bath
    7 bottle and bed

This is what we HOPE for....the bottle/solids sched is ALWAYS the same.... we are a mess for naps cuz of the other kids' schedules, school pick-ups, sports, etc, etc, etc. Sometimes they catnap throughout the day rather than taking full naps. I usually get one good one though! [IMG]

YOU ARE NOT DOING IT ALL WRONG!! Do what works for you and your babies! [IMG]

At 3 1/2 months old my boys were sleeping 8pm to 8 am .My newest little one is eating cereal & fruit at 10am followed by an 8 oz bottle. Then she will eat a jar of veggies for lunch at around 3 followed by an 8 oz bottle. Then she will eat again around 7:30ish.She has a jar of fruit followed by an 8oz bottle.Sometimes I will give her another bottle if she is still awake at 10.Then i put her to bed and she does not get up until 10am. [IMG] I HAVE to get a better schedule. The boys still go down at 8 but I don't want to ruin a good thing by putting her down and her disturbing them when she fusses.

Wow... solids and 8oz bottle at 3.5 months. So jealous that they sleep that long!
