Hey Expectant Moms!

We all know that Twinstuff is a valuable source of information for pregnant moms of twins. But this site offers much more than just pregnancy support, and it is our hope to share a piece of our community with you each week through our Featured Forum thread.

This week's Featured Forum is the Breastfeeding Forum . By clicking on that link, you will be directed to this wonderfully supportive group of women. The Breastfeeding Forum is designed for support of those desiring to breastfeed, current nursers and moms on the fence. Please expect posts within this forum to be centered on the support and encouragement of breast feeding.

So here is your mission moms...Take a look around the Breastfeeding Forum, read a few threads, and then COME BACK here to post in this thread ONE THING THAT YOU LEARNED about breastfeeding twins that you did not already know.

Now...off you go!!! :)

Not sure if “learned” is the right answer… I am sooo on the fence with b/f. I did with my son and not sure if I want to go through that drama again… and with two… I guess I have time to decide…

Well, you have time to decide and if you do b/f, there are a lot of supportive people in that forum to help you through the tough times.

Hi,

I've been reading the breastfeeding forum for a little while and getting excellent info. and a couple of important questions answered. There is an article on the board saying, "breastfeeding does not make breasts saggy, but age and smoking are major culprits." This is important info. to read, I think, b/c I've been hearing the opposite since I was a little girl. IMO it's not necessarily encouraging info. for a girl to grow up hearing. I say this article is great to have posted and be able to learn about on TS  .

HI Everyone :) Congratulations on all of your twin pregnancies!

My name is Melissa and I am one of the Breastfeeding Forum Moderators. We have a wondeful, very supportive group of women in the BF forum who go out of their way to help eachother and make the journey of breastfeeding twins SO much easier.

I breastfed my now 3 year old twins until their first bday. They were born at 34 weeks and spent a little over 2 weeks in the hospital. I pumped for 3 months and FINALLY got them to nurse at 3 months with a lot of advice and support from the women here. Now I am nursing my 6 month old singleton and am still getting great advice!

I hope that you will come visit us and really will consider breastfeeding your twins. I know that it seems like a scary, overwhelming thing when you are pregnant, but I really do feel like it is one of my greatest personal accomplishments in life!

I'm looking forward to "meeting" all of you :)

:hi: Please don't be shy! I'm Jackie, a moderator of the breastfeeding forum! I breastfed my twins exclusively from birth. I had a great experience with a few roadbumps! I weaned when they were about 26 months old and I was about 8 weeks pregnant with my current pregnancy! The breastfeeding forum has some awesome women who are so full of support and advice! More than likely SOMEONE has experienced something that might come up with your experience! We have a sticky of breastfeeding success stories for you to page through. Find one that seems similar to your story and see how they turned their roadbumps into a successful breastfeeding experience!
There are also other stickies of stuff that you need to know while or before breastfeeding! Please come and take a peek! We don't bite, although the kiddos might once or twice!
Breastfeeding is difficult, but it is also one of the most rewarding things I have done.

Just wanted to plug the forum as well. I wish I would have spent time reading in that forum before I had my girls. My best advice is to commit to breastfeeding for 6 weeks and don't let yourself quit until you've hit that milestone. I didn't realize how hard of a job breastfeeding twins was. HOWEVER, if you do it - it is so rewarding to know you aren't cutting any corners in the care of your twins...just because they're twins. It's not for everyone but you'll never know if it's really for you unless you commit to trying (if you've decided to BF) for at least 6 weeks. I wanted to quit a bunch before 6 weeks and then it just became way easier. Now I think it's easier than formula which I used for my son who is 13. I wish I would have breastfed him longer because it's so much easier but you don't get to the easy part right away.

Anyway, my point is to read the posts in that forum for a while during your pregnancy. You may learn ahead of the game unlike me.

I have a question, and if it needs to be moved or I should post it in the breastfeeding forum, I will… BUT they are all in the trenches of breastfeeding, I don’t want bother them with a silly question from a mom who is only 12+ weeks pregger… here it is.
I breastfed my son for 10 months (10 years ago)… he kind of weaned himself around that time and I was done… we were all happy and that’s what’s important to me… but the thing that turned me off to b.f. and why when I initially found out I was pregnant with twin I WASN’T going to attempt it… is the wee hour b.f. in the early months… around 6 months I gave my son formula at the feeding right before bedtime (my husband says I’m wrong it was more like 8 months… but I’m sure I justified it with the fact that I was introducing other foods and that’s around 6 months)… The only reason I gave formula @ that time is because I was hopping it would stick to his ribs and he would sleep longer at night… it helped… he did… SO my question… has anyone had success with giving formula for one or two of the wee hour feeding when the babies are very little? I think I will be a better mom to everyone, if every few days dad can take a night…and I know I can pump… but I am just curious if anyone did this with success?

just let me know if i should move this or post it in the b.f. forum...

I've trained as a breastfeeding support mum here in Scotland and help lots of new mums through the first tricky weeks of breastfeeding. But- (shhhh, don't tell anyone!) I'm more than a little worried about how things are going to be with twins! I successfully fed my other two children well into the second year of their lives, and I'm praying I'll be able to give these wee twin the best possible start, so I'll definitely be popping on your board for lots of help!

Elizabeth, that's a good question. You should probably post that right in the BF forum. Those moms that are doing it (or have already weaned) in there would be able to give you some good answers. Since they have the experience with BF twins, I'm sure that they would be happy to answer your questions about getting ready to BF twins.

I've been lurking on the BF forum since joining and I'm so glad to have it here. My hospital and my doctors are very encouraging and promote BFing, but sometimes I get the standard shock over wanting to BF twins. I don't expect it to easy and I'm worried about having a really solid support group. I know DH will be very supportive, but I'm so glad that there will be a place to come and ask questions and get encouragement from other moms.

The most important thing I've gotten from the BFing forum are the success stories. I know it can be done no matter what those around me think/say. I will probably be burning up the forum once the babies are here! :D

So, have a lot of you had a chance to visit the breastfeeding forum? Have you found answers to any questions you might have had about getting ready to bf your twins?

I posted there to get a recommendation for a good book on breastfeeding twins since I am interested in breastfeeding, but pretty clueless. I got to responses both suggesting the same book. I ordered it yesterday. I've also read a few of the thread, so I will probably visit periodically just to get a feel for things.

I have had a few negative comments about my ideas for breastfeeding twins, as well. This forum was a breath of fresh air and I am so glad it was linked to the expecting forum, so I would take a look. Thank you for introducing me to the forum! ~Erin
