My kiddos start preschool in September and are required to bring a water bottle to school each day. We currently just use basic sippies, but before I go out and buy the same type, I thought I would ask what your kiddos are using.

I have friends who use the Camelback ones, the Nalgene Grip-n-Gulp ones seem pretty popular and a coworker suggested the Thermos Funtainer (stainless) ones.

    Any other suggestions?

Are they leak proof in a lunch box?

Big fans of Kleen Kanteen and Sigg stainless bottles here. Nalgene also makes a great plastic bottle with a pop up straw-like top. That's the most spill proof one I've found.

Are they easy for the kiddos to open on their own? We have the Sigg bottles, but (several month ago) they had a hard time opening/closing the top. Should probably try them again before writing them off!
    Thanks for the reminder.

My kids have the Thermos stainless steel ones (bought ours at Target) and they are great. Keeps water cold, no leaks and the bottle doesn't sweat.

Target has straw cups for $3.99, of their "embark" brand. They're perfect for water, they don't leak, the kids can open them, and if they knock them over, they don't spill.

we have the sigg ones, I think they are aluminum... the tops twist, and my dd can't untwist herself. they do spill a bit if shaken upside down... or left on sides... but overall I like them.

We use the Rubbermaid Premium Chug Bottles. I really like them and they don't leak. My boys are 2 1/2 and are able to open and close them with ease. Plus that are pretty inexpensive. I bought mine at Lowes; they sell them in a 2-pack.

like our Siggs ... they don't spill at all. We also like the camelback and nalgene ones ... but I would say they do sorta spill ...

We have been really happy with the thermos - no leaking. But for school we take our Nalgene's because they just sit in the fridge until lunch - are you required to pack them in the bag? We have the Nalgene's you tip back (not the straw) - we don't use valves anymore so they are definitely not leak proof, but they can get their drink so much easier.
