Favorite books

I'm looking for the next step up in kids literature. What are your preschoolers enjoying currently?


We are reading:
-Bearanstein Bears
-Courderoy
- Frog and Toad
-Books about Planets/The Solar System

 

We love the magic tree house series!

 

We love the Brambley Hedge series by Jill Barklem. Our absolute favourite for rereading and for the pictures.

We have also started on Winnie the Pooh and are enjoying it.

Recently, we read The Little Ghost and The Robber Hotzenplotz by Otfried Preussler. Otfried Preussler's books are German classics which have been very widely translated, but all the books can be a bit scary and you should definitely browse and see if they are suitable for your children. For example, the Robber Hotzenplotz is pretty scary (a robbery, people being locked up) but so hilarious and in a world that is so clearly phantasy that for my kids the ridiculous made the bad guys funny not frightening (but I still would not read it at bedtime).

We also have a good collection of books on farming, where food comes from etc., for example Pancakes, pancakes by Eric Carle.

 

My boys love the Little House on the Prairie series we are currently reading By the Shores of Silver Lake. I started them when they were 3 with the picture books and then moved into the chapter books.

-Flat Stanely has a series of books.

-My Father's Dragon series

-Anything non fiction: volcanoes, plants/space, dinasaurs, sharks/ocean, geology

-The longer Dr. Suess books

-Peter Pan (original)

-Disney Storybook collections

-books of children's poems.

-Franklin the turtle books were a favorite when they were 3
