fast nipples

At what age did you switch from the slow nipples to the fast ones?

 

I use the Dr. Browns so they have different levels. Its more like, premie, slow, med, fast. At 3 months I tried to go from slow to med and found it was too fast for them. Tried it again just before 4 months and after a day or two they got the hang of it. I think sometimes it says suggested months/age on the package. If they are getting too much air or spilling a lot I think it is too soon to switch, if you give it a try you'll likely beable to tell if they aren't ready yet

 

We mostly nurse but the 40 minutes to drink 4 ounces of formula before bed was killing us so we switched to fast nipples now that the babes are 5 months and they are now taking 6 ounces in less than 10 minutes...ahhhhh quicker to bed heehee. I do find though that my girl is starting to show preference for the bottle vs the breast because of the difference in flow. We use the playtex drop ins bottles. Good luck!

 

We used Dr. Brown's too. My girls never went above the level 2 nipple. We went to level 2 around 4 months old.

 

Another Dr Brown's user here too. We started off on preemie nipples, then at 3 months switched to stage one, then at 5 months went to stage two. We just went to stage 3 this past weekend (they're almost 9 mos.). It was time because they were starting to "play" with the nipple more and show frustration rather than get down to business and eat.

 

we use dr. browns too. level 2 and my girls are 3 months. we switched about a month ago though. they were taking forever to drink their night time bottle and seemed to be getting angry at it. i switched and they are doing great with the level 2s.

 

I would always go up a size if they seemed to be taking a really long time & working really hard to finish a bottle.

 

we use playtex bottles/nipples. The slow ones took FOREVER, so we went to medium flow at 3 months. After a day or two of slobbing it out, they got the hang of it and finish eating much faster now.

 

Which bottled are you using?

We changed gradually from slow-medium-fast. They started fast at about 5.5-6 months and it was a mess for a week until they got a hang of it.

 

We actually use Dr. Browns Bottles too and at about 4 months old went from the preemie nipple to the Y-cut nipple, We started adding rice cereal to their formula to try and help with the reflux they were having, and the thickness of the formula/cereal mix kept the flow slow enough for them to handle. At first it was a little messy, but they picked it up right away. That all we have used ever since!!
