I failed two of the four blood draws for my three hour glucose tolerance test [IMG] What a friggin' bummer right before Christmas! Good news is it's not a major deal yet, all I need to do is alter my diet. So, I was just wondering if any of you have suggestions for easy meals and snacks that help cut out those nasty carbs that raise up the blood sugar. The dietician gave me some advice but I'd really like to know what works well for those of you in the trenches with me daily. Thanks!

I will be 32 weeks on Saturday and failed the 3 hour glucose test 2 weeks ago. I test my blood sugar 4 times a day and have been able to keep it within the normal range. My husband took a high school student with juvenile diabetes with him to the grocery store and that helped a ton because he didn't have to read labels. She knew what was good for me and what tasted decent.

    Recommendations:
Oatmeal for breakfast (Maple & Brown Sugar) - Kroger Brand Less than 30 carbs which is what you should eat for breakfast. I also have 4 pieces of bacon (0 carbs) They want you to eat lots of protein.
Yogurt made with Splenda or regular yogurt if that is all you eat for a snack.
Eat lots of String Cheese/Peanut Butter/Low Sugar Fruit Cups/Eggs
Do not eat anything white (white sugar, flour, bread)....this sends your sugar high. Fruit juice will send you high as well. Regular Vanilla Ice Cream sent me high too.
For lunch, I usually eat a pepper turkey sandwich with pepperjack cheese and light mayo on whole wheat bread and 11 potato chips.
For drinks, I usually drink 5-6 bottles of water a day. I drink Diet Root Beer because that is the only diet pop I can stand.
Take advantage at supper....Prime Rib, Filet, Chicken, Fish...anything meat and a nice serving of vegetables. I love salad, so a nice salad with ranch dressing won't change your sugar level hardly at all. Pasta will send your sugar through the roof.
Always eat a snack before you go to bed.
    I hope this helps.

I was diagnosed 2.5 weeks ago, and monitor 4-5 times a day. I have been able to do a decent job controlling my numbers. This is what I eat almost everyday:

Toast with PB and glass of milk for breakfast

Boiled egg and light yogurt for snack

Hot turkey/cheese sandwhich w/apple for lunch

Cheddar and triscuits and carrot sticks for snack

Dinner varies, but try to eat a salad...fiber slows sugar breakdown

3 graham crackers w/ PB and glass of milk before bed

Sadly, I'm still starving a lot of the time, and I didn't gain any weight last week, so we'll see what happens next week.

Just take care of yourself...you'll be fine!

Watching your diet is a must. I had gestational diabetes and ended up on insulin shots. They should have ordered you an appointment with a dietician and to learn how to check your blood sugar levels. The dietician will give you excellent advice and then I would advise you go to a diabetes website to get ideas on yummy recipes.
