I know there have been posts on this before. I just failed my 1 hour glucose test (barely -- my doc uses the cut-off of 140 but I know some use 135). Anyway, I got a 141! I have to go in for the 3 hour test now. Is this common that people fail the first but pass the second test? I don't have any risk factors at all for GD (except that I have twins of course which I know makes me a little higher risk). I am really hoping I pass the three-hour test. I already have to get my blood checked 2 times a week because I am on heparin (and do shots 3 times a day). I really don't want to have to blood sugars too...
(sorry just had to vent a little).

    Any advice, words of wisdom/encouragement??

Hi there...sorry you failed by one miserable point! yes it is very common to fail that one and to pass the 3 hr test with flying colors! I failed the first one...but refused the second one...just went straight to the dietician....and got the diet...which she told me to keep doing what I had been doing! :D I was at 29 weeks and had gained 27 pounds and was on bed rest for 24 of those weeks! So I must be doing something right....the babies are right on track and are growing! She gave me the glucometer and told me to test every couple of days. So I do and it is just fine.

    Don't sweat the small stuff!!

at 28 weeks, I just downed a bunch of chcolate which I knew I can't handle blood sugar wise but I was depressed over my OB and I didn't use my brain and quit when it told me to. And being 28 weeks and RH-, I was anticipating getting my Rhogam shot THAT week and not a week later. I was so frustrated. Anyways. So I had to go in and get blood work done to PROVE i'm RH- and unfortunately this also entailed the 1 hour glucose test. I went and did this right after my appointment with the OB because I didn't want to go to 30 weeks withouth that rhogam shot and yet I had a feeling that I wouldn't pass because of eating what I did... it takes me more than 24 hours to get all that sugar out of my system. This was less than 12 hours later. I failed with a big whopping 208 score.

But I went on and did the 3 hour test last week and passed with normal colors.

When this happens, think about what you ate that morning or the day before and if it was an excess of sugar ANYWHERE, you now know how it's impacting you and your babies and not to continue eating that way - for as long as you don't want to have GD. Any excess sugars in your system mean excess in your babies and this can lead to metabolism problems for them later.... not worth any sort of binge!

I failed with a 141 too! I passed the 3 hour with "flying colors", according to my dr.
    Good luck,

I wish you the best. I think I am in the minority here. I failed my 1 hour by like 7 points. I was hoping I had failed it because of the Halloween candy I ate the night before. My doctor didn't seem to think I would have a problem passing my 3hour but sure enough I failed that too. I even tried to be super careful about what I ate the day before. I wish you better luck than me.

I also failed my 1 hour test (don't remember the numbers) but I passed my 3 hours test. I think its pretty common...

I failed my one hour test about 2 weeks ago. I decided to follow some gestational diabetes guidelines until I took my 3 hour test, just in case. So for about a week I cut out all sugar, made sure to eat protein with my carbs, etc. I went in for my 3 hour test the day after Thanksgiving and I passed. Also, my original number was much higher than yours, 190. Since you are so close to the cut off, hopefully you will pass the 3 hours test also. I suggest scheduling it as early as you can in the morning, so you can fast at night, and then bring food to eat with you after you are done, because I was definitely needing food by then, and my hands were shaking as I drove home. HTH.

It's very common. I failed the 1 hour (didn't ask what my score was) and passed all of the checks in the 3-hour. I blamed the fact that they asked me last-minute to come in the morning instead of afternoon and I'd eaten a bunch of dried apricots. The doctor said it wouldn't matter unless I'd eaten an entire box of Krispy Kremes but I'm not sure I believe that.

This is very common. I was having a very uneventful pregnancy and then at 28 weeks failed my 1 hour test. They lost my test results and didn't tell me that I failed until I was 31 weeks. I ended up having to sit at the doctors office for 4 hours at 31 weeks and it was miserable! I was so uncomfortable by that point but everything worked out. I passed no problem and never had any issues after that.

I have failed my glucose test not preganant and then passed the 3 hour. I haven't had it yet this pregnancy, but your # is so boderline, I bet it will be ok. Just don't over do the carbs and sugar before the test!!

My best friend who had twins also failed her first test but passed the second. I know a lot of single birth moms who did the same, too. GL on your 3 hour test! You will probably do just fine especially since you barely failed the first one!

Another "I failed, then passed" story here. 1 hour scored a 146, but I passed the 3 hour just fine. Totally common- just make sure you follow all the "rules" for the 3 hour test to be safe! :) good luck!

I failed the one hour and passed the 3 hour in both my pregnancies... just follow the directions prior to the 3 hour for accurate results. Good luck!

I failed my 1-hour last week with a score of 171. I took the 3-hour test on friday, and I hope to hear the results sometime today.

Does anyone know... if you have no symptoms with the 3-hour test, does that mean you probably passed? There were so many warnings about nausea, weakness, dizzyness, fatique... and I didn't feel any of that! (There was another pg mama doing hers at the same time as me, and she was a wreck - had to go in the back and lay down, could barely stand up...).

With my singlton pregnancy I failed the 1 hour test by only a point-and they had me think about what I ate before the test-which stupid me-was pretty much and entire watermelon! Yikes-that is alot of gllucose! No wonder I failed!
They made me do the 3 hour test anyway and I threw up the drink about an hour after I drank it-maybe because it was on an empty stomach and a 12 hour fast...anyways, they had me monitor my blood sugar for the next two weeks and it was always normal, so they decided that I didnt have it.
This time around I made sure and ate a high protien, low sugar/carb breakfast before I went in for the test and I passed. So maybe you just ate something a little high in sugar since it was only 1 point above normal.
I bet you pass your 3 hour test!

I don't remember eating anything high in sugar the night before (last thing I ate before the test was around 10pm the night before-- some bran cereal). I can't remember if I ate anything sugary before that point (I don't have much of a sweet tooth, though).

I took the 3 hour test today, so we will see how it goes. That lemon-lime stuff was disgusting! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I didn't think the orange stuff was nearly that bad.

I am a little concerned because I had a lot of symptoms when I drank the glucola (shaky, sweaty and felt like I was about to pass out for about 2 hours of the test). I don't know if it was just because I had an empty stomach or not. Well, only time will tell at this point. Hopefully I passed!!!
