Well, last Thursday I had my three hour glucose test done and I failed it. I failed the one hour and three hour parts of the test. I wasn't way over but enough that I need to be closely watched. I met with a Diabetic Counselor at the hospital on Friday and was briefed on what I need to do to stay healthy and keep the baby healthy. The worst part of it for me is i have to test my blood sugar four times a day. So, I have a meter and have to stick my finger 2 hours after every meal and first thing in the morning. I haven't been doing horrible but it really is hard to have to measure everything out and figure out what is ok to eat and what isn't. But, I'll do whatever it takes as long as the baby is ok.

:hug99: Oh honey!! I was hoping you would pass!! I had to get tested (1 hour) at my first OB check because my BMI was too high. I haven't heard results back. Did you have any issues with your twins pregnancy?

Oh what a bummer Michelle. I hope you are able to keep things under control. At least you don't have to do it for too long...YOU CAN DO IT!!!

bummer, bummer... that stinks. Well, I guess on the bright side if you have to be careful about what you eat then hopefully you won't gain as much weight right?... less back tracking to do on eating habits after the baby comes too. (I always eat like a pig when I'm pg, then I have trouble curbing my eating after the baby comes... I kind of forget that hey I don't have this little leech in there anymore consuming my calories for me!!) Hope everything looks good for you...just 10 more weeks right!

What a bummer! I know a couple of people who have had GD, and they were able to keep things under control by watching what they ate. It stinks that you have to do the finger pricks, though!!!! Best of luck to you. :hug99:

Thanks for the words of encouragement! :hug99:

Jackie - When I had Kelly and Kaitlyn I failed the one hour but passed the three hour. And, when I'm not pregnant my sugar is usually low. So, when I failed the three hour I was completely taken by surprise. This is the first time in my life my glucose levels have ever been high. The 'only' issue I had with the girls was pre-ecplampsia.

What is bumming me out now is that my morning fasting numbers are higher than the diabetic doctor wants them. I should be in the range of 60-90. For the past week they've been gradually creeping up (89, 99, 99, 105, 107, 111). I asked what this means and was told that the problem is probably hormonal and that I might have to go on insulin or an oral med to get that number down. The rest of my numbers have been ok (with the exception of yesterday - not sure what happened there).

I really, really don't want to have to give myself insulin shots. It's bad enough that I have to check my glucose 4-5 times a day. I don't think that I could give myself injections.

I swear my body goes haywire in the 30th week of pregnancy. This is also the week with the girls that I developed pre-ecplampsia and had to be hospitalized.

I just wanted to give you a :hug99: I started insulin at nine weeks this pregnancy and after a few weeks insisted on an insulin pump. So much nicer than 6-8 shots a day. I just change the catheter every two days or so. I have to test my blood sugars 8-10 times a day so I know where your coming from there. I would highly recommend the Accu-check multi click device, it has a lancet drum and you can adjust the depth of the needle, I use 2 most of the time. It really saves my fingers. As for measuring, I had to measure in the beginning but then you develop an eye. I also use carb counting instead of exchanges, it's much simpler and is on almost anything you eat, plus I use a book with all the lists from companies and restaurants so it's real accurate too. Try not to get discouraged. The nice thing about the carb counting and insulin is that I no longer have to abide by a "diet", I just add everything up and dose myself accordingly. Many insurances will cover the pumps, especially in pregnancy but I wouldn't wait because there is a cut off point where they refuse to cover so many weeks before delivery. If your doc is considering it at all I would ask now rather than later. If you do end up with shots, yes, it sucks, but think of that fact that it is a temporary thing, and you can do anything for a limited time, especially when the outcome is a healthy child. PM with any questions or if you need to vent! I'm not on the boards much now but will try to look for an update. Oh, my target BS range is 80-100 and I'm just starting my 30th week. Best wishes!
