    Hi,

I found out today that I failed my 1 hour GD test with a number of 186. Basically, I tanked it. So- do I have any hope of passing my 3-hour? Everything I read online really makes me worried about GD. I have gained 27 pounds and babies are measuring in the 27%tile so I don't understand why this is happening. I have no history of diabetes in my family and I eat pretty healthy...although I do eat dessert almost every night.

Does anyone have any advice or answers? I appreciate it.

I failed my 1-hour glucose screen miserably too...191. I passed all 4 of the 3 hour GTT though so there is still hope for you. A lot of women here failed the 1 hour but passed the 3-hour. Good luck on your 3hr test!

I have failed ALL 5 of my previous 1 hr GTT's..Ive only failed 2 out of 5 3 hr ones. With my last pg i was put on insulin and this time im not even going to take the GTT. IM already checking BS weekly and its a matter of time before im on insulin again..

The 3hr could go either way...GL...

That's interesting. I've never heard of pre-GD. Is that just a step before...giving you a chance to correct it with diet before being diagnosed with GD?

I go for my 1 hr GD later next week. I was diagnosed with insulin resistance before I was pregnant and wonder if this means I will fail this test.

I had to take my one hour early in my pregnancy because of a history of pre-diabetes before pregnancy. I failed the one hour but so did all of my other sisters, who were all pregnant at the time, and none of them got GD. I ended up passing my 3 hour during that time. However, I now have to take the 3 hour again to see if I do have GD. I have had sugar in my urine the last three visits but they don't seem too concerned because they weren't high levels. It could just be how your body reacts. There is always a chance that you will pass the three hour with no problem.

I failed the 1 hour big time - 210. They bypassed the 3 hour and put me in contact with a diabetic specialist and dietician (I had an endrocrinologist for thyroid disease but found one closer to home). I hemmed and hawed about not taking the 3 hour and my doctor said I could take it if I wanted but...

I thought, since I was eating well throughout and was exercising, that by checking my blood sugar, it would show all was normal. I was wrong. Then frustration set in, where I would eat the same things, even count carbs, and my levels would be all over the place. I started taking insulin today and it's a hassle but...

worth it. My levels are still flippy but I know my two are completely on track weight wise. I have also not gained a huge amount of weight (pretty much all baby), and as long as they are looking ok and healthy, I can suck it up and know that it will be over soon.

I have so many other ailments, what's one more, right? But, I know how important taking insulin at this point will be for my twins and for me. No one I know in my family has had gestational diabetes (my mother didn't have it). This is my first pregnancy so everything is new to me. My paternal grandfather and mother-in-law has type II so I want to do all I can to make sure my kids have the best shot possible to be healthy.

I've still been able to eat fast food or sugar/chocolate. Just in moderation and with other healthy alternatives. I am also trying to get in as much as I can as per Dr. Luke's book.

Like other discomforts, it goes away after birth should you need to monitor your blood sugar or require insulin. Also, if you have two placentas, which is what I have, there just may be nothing you can do but to take insulin. All those hormones do a great job of blocking your insulin to where it needs to go.

Good luck to you but don't let it stress you too much.

I too am insulin resistant, but do not have GD. I did fail all of my 3hrs, but barely. They were in the 140's...just enough to go do the 3 hr. I have passed my 3hrs with no problems. However, I still am somewhat concious about eating sugary things....especially in the morning. If I eat a sugary cereal then I crash about an hour later. So I either eat toast or english muffin w/ PB, bagel and cream cheese, or a healthier cereal....I am doing better now :) I can sugary things later in the day, but still dont have a lot.

Yes, I dont have to take insulin shots or check my blood sugar regularly. I Just really have to watch what i am eating. Its like a balancing act between starch and protein.. They are also monitering me at the dr more and i have to go in every 2 weeks for a blood test..(fasting.. grrr)
