My OB just called to give me the results of my 3 hr glucose test I had done on Tuesday, she said 2 of the 4 blood draws were abnormal so I have GD. When I go in for my appt on Tuesday I have to pick up the machine to test my finger, track the #'s for a week then we'll go over them. She said if we can control the #'s by diet then I won't have to take insulin everyday by shot. As long as there's no other complications she said there's no reason they'll have to move up my scheduled c-section for 38 wks. I guess looking at the bright side, I'll only have to follow the GD diet for 8 wks at the most, thats if I make it to my c-section date. So I was wondering if anyone else developed GD while pregnant with twins? Is the diet you have to follow really restrictive? Did you end up delivering early because of the GD?

thanks for any advice someone can offer

I failed the 2nd hour of my 3 hour test and was diagnosed with a glucose intolerance. To avoide getting GD, I had to do the finger pricks 4 times a day and go on the diet. My numbers were never high again the rest of my pregnancy (to 37.5 weeks scheduled c-section). The diet is restrictive IMO, but I followed it to the letter. Felt it was the least I could do for my health and the babies health. I actually hard a hard time eating as much as I was supposed to during the last month because I was so big in the end. I asked the dr if I could cut back the amount of calories and was told no.

Anyway, hopefully if you do what the drs. want you to do, you will be fine through the rest of your pregnancy.

    Good luck!

I have GD as well. I don't find the diet that restrictive really. My dietician believes in everything in moderation...and cheating is OK once in a blue moon. She doesn't expect us to be perfect.
My hardest thing was bread...now I have found a bread that I can eat anytime as it's made with no flour...and it actually tastes decent.

I would be happy to answer any further questions you have too...just let me know.

Sorry to hear you failed the test. I hope the diet isn't too annoying for you.
