Is anyone else having to deal with eye problems with their twins? One of our boys has an eye exam with a ped eye doctor in Feb. and they are saying the exam will take 3-4 hours anyone ever do this and what do they do? He is cross eyed and he did see a regular eye doctor and she said he will probably need glasses. We are going to have our other son checked out in March but that is more a precaution make sure he is seeing good.

How old are your twins? One of ours is scheduled to go see an eye dr. (I won't attempt the spelling right now) because of our concerns. When she's making eye contact, it's not centered but more to the left. Also, her left eye goes inward at times.

I'm not much help to you because we haven't gone to the appointment, but I just wanted you to know you're not alone!

they will 5 months Jan 24th, our son is having the inward eyes and you really have to be right i front of him for him to focus on us and smile and talk. So I can tell he can not focus right ecspecially when his brother follows us smiles at us from a distance and can see us far away. I can not wait for his eye appointment so we can start fixing the problem.

My boys had their first eye exam at around 9 months but because my husband has a genetic eye disease. My mom went with me and I took in one at a time. It took about 20 minutes each and honestly she said there is not much tests they could do at that age mostly following objects, turning the lights down and looking into their eye I had to put their head into the eye machine ( I have no idea what they are called) So if you are going for something specific like trouble focusing/inward eyes then they will probably do simple tests like that...GL!

We've taken Ana to the eye doctor because I have strabismus and this is heritary. Her first appointment was around 2 months I think and they dilated her eyes. They just put drops in them so her pupils dilated and they can see the structures behind the eye. They said to be prepared to be there at least 2 hours but it didn't take that long. She didn't cry at all when the drops went in. Actually she was sleeping when they did it and she didn't even wake up. She did scream during the exam but that was just because she just woke up. I've had my eyes dilated and it just makes everything blurry. Good luck.

One of my twins is crossing in with both eyes. They will be a year next week. We have tried glasses and the problem is not his vision it is the weak muscles in his eyes. We are having eye surgery to correct it on March 5th. He had glasses when he was 7 months old! Very cute I must say, but now we know the vision is not the problem so surgery it is. You are not alone!

My oldest son had an eye that turned in and got diagnosed at 24 months with amblyopia (sp?) We discovered he was very far sighted and one eye was turning in to allow him to focus with the other. He's worn glasses ever since and we had to patch the normal eye to get the weak eye to straighten. That took several months but did straighten completely. I'm told the earlier you catch this the easier it is to fix. We tried the band-aid type patches that stick to his face and he hated those. It worked best for us to put adhesive "contact" paper, like clear shelf liner stuff, that stuck to this glasses. I'd cut out the shape of his lens and then he couldn't see through that side. Worked as well as the patch and he'd leave it alone. Good luck!

the first eye doctor I saw said they sometimes sedate them, anyone ever have to do that? I am wondering if maybe that is what they are doing and that is why it may take so long, the doctor is with childrens hospital of MN maybe this is standard procedure.
Benztwins are you nervous about the surgery? Thank you everyone for answering my post I really appreciate it. :)

Maybe they are going to do a more invasive exam than what I experienced with Ana. We just went to the office and they examined her, dilated her eyes, and examined her again. Because it took about 45 minutes for her eyes to dilate we were there almost 2 hours total. I don't know, but if you want to know what to expect call them back and get all the details of the visit. GL!

Yes I am nervous. MY boys were born at 25 Weeks and were in the NICU for 4 and five months. Jack the one with the eye problems had PDA heart surgery while in the NICU and I just feel like he has been through enough! I know that this surgery has to be done, but it is never easy to have to put your kid under the knife. It will be a very hard and emotional day.

I hope all goes great and hopefully he does not have to go through anymore surgeries. How much did he weigh at birth?
