    Hi guys,

One of my DD doesn't ever make eye contact with us (or anyone else)... She's done it randomly... but really.. she always looks away and turns her head when we move to try to make eye contact with her. Has anyone else experienced this?? Is this something to worry about???? :( It's really starting to worry me,... we don't go to the doctor for another month.

Ryan did this until just a few weeks ago. It was like one day he just finally decided to look at us and now won't stop. Were they born early?

Charlotte doesn't make eye contact much either unless she's farther away from us like on the change table or across the room. She's also the baby who gets over stimulated easily and makes strange more. I think it may be related to those things for her. I think faces are too much for her to handle up close. Just a little insight, maybe your twin feels faces are too stimulating too? HTH,Jen

One of mine makes much less eye contact than the other. I read in a child development book that often if they feel overwhelmed, they will look away. It is normal, some kids just get overwhelmed with face to face contact more than others. From what I read, it is something they work through with age.

Emma was like that for a while. It bothered me too but she grew out of it and is just fine now. I'm not quite sure when she grew out of it, but I know it was past the point you are at now.

Justs to chime in even though you have some great responses.
My DD did the exact same thing. I was worried because her brother would look right at us and smile and coo. It took her 2-3 weeks to catch up and now she is just as engaged with us as him. And very, very smiley :)

Nothing to worry about at this age. My daughter will make eye contact with all adults but refuses to look at her brother. She will look everywhere but at him. If I try to make her look at him she will cry. She has only looked at him maybe twice in three months. But she will gaze into our eyes all the time. Yesterday her brother tried for ever to make eye contact with her. It was hilarious. He totally was staring her down. Finally she locked eyes with him and smiled really big. Then it was over. LOL. This is her very overwhelming twin might I add. Not an older sibling. HE HE HE. Don't worry. Sometimes it takes awhile. Even my oldest who is autistic made eye contact as a baby.

Ben did not make much eye contact I think it was around 4 months his eyes crossed and we just found out he is far sighted, So the Far sightedness was causing him not to look at us. If it still concerns you around 4-5 months get the eyes checked out it is probably nothing though at this age.

Great program http://www.infantsee.org/ you can get their eyes checked free at any participating infantsee clinic http://www.aoa.org/x5428.xml?filter=IS find a doctor through that link

Thanks for this post !! My one twin is not maintaining eye contact either and I was just starting to get worried. she will look at the light coming through the window and not me who is right there. I told her she is not a moth to a light -- hehe My other twin is very engaging and maintains great eye contact. Thanks for making me feel better.
