Our girls were born with blue/grey eyes. I know this is normal & am wondering when their eyes will become their actual color. I'm loving their light eyes & hope they stay that way :)

my oldest dd had blue/grey eyes until she was 8-9 months old then they started to change. THey are dark chocolate brown now.

I say what ever color they are at 12 months, they are most likely to stay that color. I have heard of it changing after 12 months but that is pretty uncommon I think.

Mine had bluish/grey until about 4 months old and then they turned more greenish/bluish/greyish (hazel) which they still are. I asked at their one year appointment yesterday and was told that by one year the color is generally set but the shade may change (from lighter to slightly darker). However, it can change after that too but that's fairly rare. I never in a million years would have thought I'd have one much less two children with anything other than mommy's dark brown eyes. Go figure.

Mine started going dark at about 1 mo and by 2 mo were definatly dark brown. So you never know. Even at birth though they were blue my DH claims that you could tell they would be dark.

I was wondering that too, my babies are 5 months and still have bright baby blues. They are showing no signs of change just yet, but I'm sure at least one of them will end up with brown eyes.

I am asking because I have brown eyes as do all of the women in my family, but my dad has hazel eyes. My husband has blue eyes, but his mom has brown eyes & his dad has blue eyes. I'm not a geneticist, but I thought with those odds the girls would have brown eyes. However, I have a feeling their eyes will be hazel like my dad's just because of the coloring right now and I can't wait to find out if I'm right! :p

I figured thats why you asked. It's mostly us brown eyed moms and dads that wonder. I have dark brown eyes (half Korean). My dad has brown but I have a half sister, that he fathered, with green eyes (and his ex had brown eyes as well). My mom has dark brown eyes. DH, his mother and father all have blue eyes. I guess I carried something recessive from my dad but I, like you, thought the odds were out there.

That's what color my boys' eyes were at that age so perhaps yours will have hazel like mine do. We'll just have to wait and see.

I have heard that if they have not changed by nine months, chances are they won't!

We get bluer and bluer here every day. I am blue eyed and come from 2 brown eyed parents. DH is brown eyed with 2 brown eyed parents as well.

I am betting my DD stays blue and possibly my DS as well. I love the eyes they have right now and cannot imagine them with any color other than blue at this point. :)

Thats so funny you asked i've been wondering too!
I'm 1/2 korean and have DARK brown eyes and my DH has green (everyone in his family has brown eyes too)

We never in a million years thought we'd get anything but brown eyes ...well at 3 1/2 months one has chocolate brown eyes (my nice way of saying dark brown :) ) and Noah guess what.... GREEN!! BRIGHT GREEN!! We get tons of comments when people see his eyes... an Asian looking baby with Green eyes ...go figure. We are hoping, fingers crossed they don't change!

My boys are a year old now (well, on Monday). Both were born with very dark blue eyes (usual for caucasian babies, I think). James eyes are still blue but they have lightened. Evan's eyes turned green and now we're wondering if they're transitioning to brown? I kind of hope they stay green. Both of our boys have beautiful eyes, I think. Of course I'm so biased that I'd probably say they were beautiful no matter what colour they were! I've heard that eye colour can change any time within the first year.

My middle son's eyes turned from blue to more hazel at 2 yrs old. My sister had blue grey eyes that turned hazel around the age of 30! I think that is more chemical for her. As to the twins their's are still blue. I'm hoping they stay because they are beautiful! :D I have hazel and my husband's are blue (from 2 brown eyed parents). So we could have gotten anything but brown.

I hope my kids eyes dont change. Dh and I both have blue eyes and so do our parents. Funny thing is DD has the same blue as DH and his Mum and DS has the same blue as my Dad and I.

My Ped said that you can tell what their true eye color will be by the time they are 9 months old. My DS eyes have already changed to brown and my DD are blue. I am hoping hers stay.

I have one whose eyes look like they may be turning brown like Daddy's (2 months old) and one that is still blue. I'm watching them very closely each day to see if I can notice the gradual change. It seems like I am noticing some.

At about 6 months old if they get a lot of sun/light and 9 months in a more dark environment. The neat thing is that a persons eye color can change over the course of their entire life. My eyes went from brown to green in 22 years.

my daughters eyes changed after she was one - she had really piecing blue eyes...now they are blue/green - seemed so wierd that they would turn to late. I know that it is common though.

WOW! Thanks for all of the comments :) So I guess it is possible for the girls to have light eyes (although if they end up with brown, they'll still be gorgeous  )!! I'm so excited to see what they will be!

The gene for brown eyes is the dominant one, meaning that if you got genes for brown eyes from at least one of your parents, your eyes will look brown. You may, however, be able to pass the gene for blue eyes to your children, so that you and a blue-eyed partner (or one who's "mixed-brown" himself) may have blue-eyed children. Happened in my family twice, by the way...
Blue-eyed parents on the other hand can only have blue-eyed children.
So that's the basics. I don't know how it works with grey and green, though.

A personal note: When I was born, my eyes were so dark that my parents thought they were brown (can't happen, because they both have blue eyes), but they started to lighten almost right away and are now somewhat between blue and grey.
So this change can obviously happen both ways.
