I was wondering when everyone's babies eye color changed. My husband and I both have brown eyes, however there are light colored eyes in the immediate family. Our boys' eyes started out that steely gray-blue-brown color that most babies start out with and they have progressively been getting lighter. Right now they have eyes that are VERY blue and they seem to be getting bluer.

I know that eye color can change within the first year and was wondering at about what age your babies ended up with their permanent eye color.

Eye colour can keep changing until they are about 2 years old! My husbands eyes are brown, mine are blue - so far both girls have gone brown but my son is still bluish -I'm crossing my fingers, but I doubt they will stay that way.

I'm curious about this too. Maybe this question should be linked to the 1-5 yr board.

I have read that they typically change between 3-12 months, but it can take up to 2 years.

DS went brown at something like 4 weeks. I don't think his eyes were really ever blue.

DD is still TBD on her eyes. I think she's going to end up with mine - ultimately green - but she's got blue/brown/green right now. They seem to change day to day. Mine did the same thing for years.

According to my girls' opthomologist, babies eyes can change up to 12 months old and whatever they are by 10 months is most likely what they will be. You need to factor in the adjusted age so my girls' eyes can change up to 14 months.

My DH has brown eyes, I have green and the girls were born with beautiful ocean blue eyes and are still that color. Their doctor said that they are unlikely to change now. I had blue eyes until I was 13 years old, and then they turned green..

Dh has brown eyes and I have hazel green eyes. There is also blue on both sides of the family in the grandparents and great grandparents.

Alexandra's eyes started becoming a brighter blue at around 3 months. I think by six months we knew they were going to stay that way andd they are still blue now at 20 months.

Paige so far looks brownish/hazel. Her eyes seem to be like mine, a little bit of brown around the iris and then a hazel/greenish color around that. Her eyes have been changing since about 6 months. I know from old pictures of me that my eyes did not have as much green in them when I was a kid as they do now. I expect Paige to be like me and her eyes will probably turn greener as she gets older.

I thought blue eyes were a recessive gene? In that both parents would have to have blue eyes, or one blue eyes and one have a recessive blue gene, for the child to have blue eyes, or am I completely wrong?

I have hazel (mostly green) and my honey has brown ... the kiddos each have brown in the middle, which I do, and we keep betting on whose eyes they will end up with. :D I want them to have my eyes, dangit, they got everything else from their daddy!!!

Yes you are right. You could have brown eyes and carry the recessive blue gene. I have brown eyes, I'm half Chinese - my Dad was blond with blue eyes, my Mum - black hair, brown eyes. So far our daughters have the greeny-blue colour eyes, I'm hoping I passed my recessive blue gene to both of them!! ;)

Both I and the girls father have green eyes(both his parents and my mom have green too and my dad has brown). At 17 months my girls have icey blue eyes  my meme has blues eyes too but I don't know of anyone on their dad's side who has blue eye but I don't look at their eyes too much

I've always heard that it was 18 months that they usually stopped changing but it could be longer

If brown eyed parents have blue eyed child, it means they were each carrying a recessive blue gene that the child received, even though the parents display the dominant brown eyes in their coloring. With those parents it's far more likely that the children will have brown eyes, but blue eyes (or even green, depending on what the parents carry) are still a possibility.

Soren had dark brown eyes when he was born; they were never blue, and are now his dad's lovely chocolate color. Gabriel had dark eyes of an indistinguishable color at birth; they've gone to almost green to almost hazel to a super light brown with a blue ring. I'm holding out for hazel, but I'm 99.9% sure neither will have my blue eyes. DH's dad has blue eyes, so I know he carries the gene--it just didn't get passed down. C'est la vie!

My oldest dd had blue eyes until somewhere between 2 and 3 years old when they changed to hazel. We thought for sure she was going to keep those baby blues... Now they look more green than anything. Crazy! :)

I tghought I replied but it didn't show up, so sorry if it shows twice.

Well my DH and I both have brown eyes. But apparently we carry the recessive gene so thta 25% kicked in. DS has brigt blue eyes and they only got brighter as he got older. I doubt they will change now. DD had blue eyes when she was born, but they are getting darker and have a hint of brown in them, but are more of a grey color.

My dad and my mom's mom have blue eyes and DH has some blue eyes on his side. It's definitely possible that your boys will stay blue although I think at 3 months they are still going to change even if it's just in the shades.
