So, my little chunky monkey has extremely red and irritated neck creases. It's like a dark red ring and inside that is very bright right and shiny. This is pretty much on the top and bottom creases, left and right. I know it's normal, as babies spit and and it collects there, etc. My boys had this. However, it was NEVER this bad. I'm afraid soon it will lead to an infection of some sort. Anyone have this? Did your practitioner say anything about it?

I don't know, but if you are concerned you could put a call into the pedi's office.

Mine sometimes get a little red, but nothing like you describe. :hug99:

Naomi used to have that when she was very little- It was irritation from spit up getting down in the creases, she had slight torticollis also so it was more on the side that she "tilted" to. Our ped suggested rubbing cornstarch in there, which was wierd but it really worked. It went away for good once she started getting PT for her torticollis and could turn her head better, plus she quit spitting up as much so that helped too. GL!

My Roman has this too--pretty gross! I clean it daily with sensitive skin wipes and really get in there good when I give him baths, but its still red--it doesn't seem to bother him though, so I leave it alone other than a daily cleaning.

Really irritated neck creases can lead to a yeast infection. Like the PP said, get in their good each day and clean out any leftover spit up or gunk. Then slather the area with Aquaphor (or whatever skin protectant you're using). The Aquaphor will help coat and protect the skin so future junk can't stick. If the redness doesn't decrease, talk to your Pedi about a yeast cream.

Mine have that too and we figure it's these two things. It's milk that escaped from their mouth and either we didn't wipe it up good enough or they are sensitive to the burp rags.

Or after we wash them, we don't rinse good enough and it's soap residue.

Diaper rash cream works well as a barrier protector for this. If you develop the little bumps then it is likely yeast and you have to use a yeast cream (we used generic lotrimin) and it cleared up.

That's it! We went to the pedi. Major yeast infection. Gross. We have a perscription for a cream but it won't get better fully until she elongates and the area has more time to breathe. SHe's just so chubby (15 lbs 4 oz at 6.5 weeks). Thanks for the advice.
