    Hi Ladies,

My name is Sparkle and I am new to Twinstuff. First of all, let me say thanks to you all for your wonderful information and all the stories you share. I have been reading for several days now but this is my first post. I am very excited to have found this community because I am still completely shocked and alarmed as to what to do with two babies. Of course my continued disbelief is probably a little silly given that we had IVF and 2 embryos implanted, but I think that I never expected 1) that it would work on the first round and 2) that both would actually take! But anyway, the bambini are on their way and we are really excited.

Now to get down to business, I have scrolled through the topics and I have not yet found this one so please someone let me know if its out there and I just havent found it yet, but for the love of GOD, please tell me how you all dealt with the nausea!!!! I am all but incapacitated by it. I am 8 weeks 5 days and it literally hit about a week ago and it just will not let up. Most of the time I am not throwing up, but then I kind of wish that I was throwing up because I think to myself that it might feel better if I actually do (but I have since discovered that this is not actually true). I have the worst stomach sickness imaginable for most of the waking day, eating is always an adventure, as is taking my prenatal vitamins, and it is even making it difficult for me to fall asleep at night. I am really desperate and suffering. I know that nausea is meant to be worse when there's twins but I cant imagine that it is supposed to be this bad.

Please, if anyone has any tips at all for how to ease it, then I would greatly appreciate the advice.

    Thanks so much,

    Sparkle

Hi Sparkle & :welcome: to Twinstuff!!!
First of all, CONGRATS on your pregnancy :yahoo: How exciting!

I am so sorry about the nausea. I don't have any great advice for it unfortunately...my nausea went away after the 1st trimester, hopefully yours will subside too!
I kept saltines next to my bed (and everywhere around the house!) I found that eating 1 cracker very slowly first thing in the morning really helped me.
I also got sick from prenatals and ended up switching brands twice till I found one that didn't make me nautious. It ended up being the generic brand (Walgreens) ones that worked best for me in the end!

Keep us posted on how you are doing!! :good:

Here are some recent threads on nausea.

I hope these help. Plus I'm sure people will post there experiences. With my twin pregnancy I did better if I always had something in my belly and ate alot of protein. With my current pregnancy, I actually had to go on medication called Diclectin (Canadian med) which is Vitamin B6 and Unisom. The other threads mention it.

Congrats! I, too, suffered from severe nausea. I tried EVERYTHING (from vit B to accupressure). The only things that helped (but unfortunately, did not eliminate) were Zofran and frequently eating small meals. Mine lasted well into the 3rd trimester. Nausea definitely is NOT fun...but having these new additions to your family are WELL WORTH IT! ;)

:wavey: Sparkle and welcome to twinstuff! Congratulations on your twins.

I wish I had a magical remedy for the nausea. :( Mine set in at around 7 weeks and I never did find anything that made it a whole lot better. I did take Zofran, like a previous poster mentioned, but it did very little. Many times I did feel like you, that if I just threw up it would make me feel better. I do hope that you find something that works or that it passes quickly for you so that you can enjoy your pregnancy.

Go for the drugs... I was on the Canadian diclectin too, but there's the Zofran and other things. My nausea eased up around 5 months, but boy, that was a long 5 months! I feel for you.. it's tough being nauseous all the time

Zofran...It was the only thing that helped, and it only helped for a little bit. I have heard that there is a zofran pump. LOOK FOR IT! I wish I had. I hear it is more consistant and even. Wish I had.

Welcome to TS and sorry you're feeling so awful. I never had MS as bad as some ladies here who needed a prescription, but it did make life miserable enough for several weeks. Like some of the PP's, I know that keeping a little bit of food in my stomach at all times helped me a lot. Often that meant a trip to the kitchen for a small bowl of cereal at 2 or 3 in the morning or else my morning would be wrecked. My ms would definitely be worse if I had an empty stomach. Also, fresh squeezed lime in icewater made me feel better too.

I sure hope this passes soon for you!

Welcome to TS & congrats! I have suffered massive nausea with this pregnancy so i feel your pain. I bought a relief band which took care of it completely in my past pregnancies, but simply helped a bit this time around. I did everything from drinking ginger tea, to taking b12, to eating frequently and while things helped, i was still miserable. I also learned that with ms, while you think that throwing up would make you feel better, i never did after, go figure. If you start really throwing up and whatnot, don't hesitate to get on zofran to get relief. Hopefully it will pass for you in a few weeks. Good luck!

Thanks to you all for your support and advice. I see that many of you recommend Zofran. Coincidentally, right after I posted I remembered that my husband was prescribed Zofran a few weeks ago after his shoulder surgery to help combat his nausea from the pain meds. It was so bad last night that I grabbed one and took it and I felt better almost immediately and was able to fall asleep (finally -- at 3 in the morning London time). I felt really guilty and a bit afraid about taking it though -- I was scared that it might hurt the babies. Hearing so many of you say that you took it safely during your pregnancies makes me feel much better and I will keep poaching his until I can get to my doctor for a supply of my own. Not sure what the UK equivalent will be, but I will indeed have to go for the drugs!!

    Thanks again ladies!

I lived on lemon tea the first trimester I just squeeze lemon juice and add hot water and drink it but I was sure that I am craving this. after I read on this forum that it help a lot with nausea so I can tell yes I do have nausea but it wasn't very bad might be because of the tea??

Congrats on your pregnancy! I'm sorry you're having so much nausea. I had tons of nausea, too, and unfortunately it lasted for quite a while. My doctor prescribed Zofran, which sometimes helped and sometimes did not. One thing that I did find very helpful was frozen lemonade bars. I don't know why, but they were a lifesaver. I remember I felt like the nausea would never end, and I know how miserable it is, but just hang in there. You can do it!!!

I also had a ton of nausea, about weeks 9-13. I found eating even when i wasnt hungry was one of the keys. It seemed counter-intuitive, but as soon as my stomach was empty, i was completely unable to function! I had really good luck with Zofran as well, but my insurance would not cover any refills. At that point, i used Phenergan which is another prescription anti nausea med, but it made me very sleepy. I ended up eating sour patch kids candy by the boat load and found that the combo of sugar/sour helped a ton!

Here in Australia the drug most often prescribed is Maxolon (generic name is: Metoclopramide HCL 10 mg) every country a new drug name. For my twins I have severe nausea /vomiting and for two weeks straight I wasn't able to eat any food except pickled veggies (it was the vinegar). I only drank Gatorade. For this second pg I was not going to put up with that again and took the Maxolon. Trust me if you are able to eat then that is much better for your two bubs.

Chewable kids vitamins until you can take the real prenatals. But I'd recommend buying folic acid since they really recommend 400 mcg. these are small in size so that should help.

Sips of Coke cola really helps.

Lemon oil -- just find a natural food store open the bottle and take a wiff -- you will immediately notice the difference. If you have some fresh lemons cut them and smell them and you will know what I mean. Great to have a bottle in your purse.

Vanilla foods (rice pudding, pudding, etc.)

Peppermint tea -- the smell is helpful. Sometimes regular tea too depending on the day.

    Peppermint gum

    sour candies.

ginger (never worked for me) same with saltines

keeping something in your stomach at all times.

too hot like a shower can make you feel nauseated afterwards.

a high carb food before bed so you don't have a drop in sugar levels in the morning. I found if i took orange juice in the morning it would make me vomit due to the high sugar and immediate increase.

hope one of these helps. Everyone is different.

I had candied ginger, then that moved to ginger altoids, then when I finally did start hurling, I never had the queasiness again. Just the occasional, I'm gonna hurl, go puke, come back and finish eating. Seriously, the best thing is to keep something in your stomach at all times. You'll see it over and over again on these forums, eating to combat MS. I would try to eat a few crackers every hour until you're eating actual food again.

I've had extreme nausea since week 6. Zofran definitely helped the physically getting sick and worries of dehydration, but I've had a really hard time finding things I can eat. That said, on the worst days:
-Water or tea with lemonade in it
    -Vanilla pudding
-Baked Lay's (I can't eat Saltimes, but I can eat these)
    -Sherbert (lime or orange)

    On the better days:
    -Seedless grapes
    -Melon (canteloupe, watermelon, honeydew)
    -Strawberries

    On good days:
-Peanut butter and spreadable fruit on bread
-Colby Cheese (watch out for the constipation that this... and Zofran... can cause)

Many good thoughts and prayers that the nausea will soon be a distant memory!!!

Congrats on your pregnancy!!!! and welcome to TS!!

I lived on Zofran for months! I also spent much time in bed for the first few months (despite having 2 other kids to take care of). ginger, protein and all the other things that were supposed to help didn't help me. I did find that protein was easier to hold down than other foods but not a guarantee. Oh, stay away from the smell of cooking food!!!!!

That part really stinks but please remember it is time limited. Hang in there!!

I went through it with both my singleton and twin pregnancies... here are my advice options...
    1. Eat every 2 hours (preferrably protein with some carb) I used to have cheese and crackers all the time. Just a handful
    2. Sugared ginger- suck on it- you can find it at Trader Joe's or other health food stores...
    3. Ginger ale- drink it at room temperature. It was better than cold.
    4. Ginger tea with lemon- I would boil in a large pot ginger root, about 2 tablespoons, and when it cooled I added lemon juice from about 10 lemons. I kept it in the fridge and drank it cold.
    5. Sea sickness bands. They helped when I just felt nauseous and not wanting to throw up...
    6. Take your vitamins at night
    7. When you wake up at night to pee, eat a small bowl of cereal with milk.
    8. Keep some form of carb by your bed and eat before getting out of bed... yes, while lying down.

That's all I can think of. I tried to not take any medication and try the natural way, but I totally understand that when it's bad, it is really bad. I've been there. I've lost weight in my first trimesters and don't gain much after.

    Good luck!
