A cousin of my dh gave us like 15 boxes of rice cereal for the girls - problem is it is all expired!!! It expired 12/06!!
I do not want to use it so I threw it away!! BUT she said OH there is lots more where that came from! apparently her uncle
runs some kind of flea market - and she says she can get jars of baby food too!! I don't want to seem like I am better than her or hurt her feelings - but I don't want to feed my babies expired food! how should I get her to stop bringing it to me or should I just accept it and throw it out after she leaves???

    Hmmm...
Well, I'm with you. I don't give the kids expired food, period. The cereal might have been okay if it was still sealed. I'm sure you could always call the manufacturer and ask, but why take the risk? I would probably take them, be gracious and then throw it out later since I'm sure she means well.

I wouldn't give it, but I guess with cereal (and the fact that the boxes were sealed) it's not a major major thing ... but expired jars of baby food ... yuk?!

I agree. I would do the same thing. At least this way no one else will consume it. ;)

I agree with the PP why hurt her feelings when she thinks she is doing a good thing for you. Just take it graciously and then throw it out.

Is it possible that she didn't notice that it expired? Or that it even has an expiration date? Maybe she thinks it's like pasta or canned goods...they don't usually have expiration dates, but also aren't usually around long enough to get icky...If that might be possible, I might gently mention it to her...

But if she knows it's expired, then I'm with everyone else, take it and toss it!

oh my MIL is the same way, she doesn't notice expiration dates b/c they never really had them when she grew up?
but she is also the type to keep food on her back porch like a 2nd fridge in the winter....
