Wondering if anyone tried Castor Oil and what their experience was? I know I am having a csection either way. They want me to go into labor and they will take the boys, but I dont have to progress. I am just desperate to get these 7 lbs boys out of me asap! :)

    Thanks!

If my best friend were sitting right here, she would scream "DON'T DO IT!"

To this day (her daughter is four) she regrets doing it. It gave her severe diarrhea and cramping and made her life miserable for about six hours. But, she did go into labor, so I guess you should weigh those options yourself. I wouldn't, in all honesty. Let it happen on it's own if you can.

I did it when I was past due with my 2nd pg (STUPID ME!) Before I took it I was dialated to 3 and 100% effaced, it caused vomiting and cramping, but not even a BH contraction let alone the real thing.

It can cause meconioum which the babies can ingest and cause big problems too.

    My advice....Don't try it!

Edited to say with the pg that I tried castor oil with I still held out another 6 days and had to be induced.

my initial thought was to say go for it, but I have heard some of the stories others sharing I would be afraid of exhausting myself with the cramps/vomiting/diahrrea that could accompany it. I know I would feel the same way though!

I took it with my son... I had been having extremely painful contractions for 2 days, but wasn't dilating at all.. My contractions were every 5 minutes and would send me to my knees.. So Friday at 7 pm I took a shot of castor oil and chased it with a drink of soda. Contractions started coming every 3 minutes and got worse. Went to hospital and and still wasn't dilating, Saturday morning they sent me home and said when the pain gets worse come in, you must not be able to handle the pain very well... Each contraction I was crying, it was so painful, I was so scared to death about the pain getting worse.. I spent all day saturday in bed having contractions every 3 to 5 minutes. Sunday morning at 7:30 I was finally trying to eat some cereal when my water broke, we got to the E.R at 8:51 and my son was born at 9:30. The contractions never really got worse, they just never stopped.. It was a really hard few days.. But I accomplished something I never thought I could.. I had an almost 8 lb baby drug free!

    Good luck, in your decision!

I did, 2nd pregnancy, 6 days overdue. It tastes gross, even mixed in soda. I had 2 tblspns, and it caused me to go the toilet, but nothing too bad. Contractions started about 4 hours later, she was born 12 hours after contrax started.

I've never tried castor oil but I have a friend who was 2 weeks overdue. She didn't want to take the castor oil b/c of the reasons everyone has talked about. So instead she went and bought some White Castles lol. It worked!! The next day she got the "slider effect" and by that night was having regular contractions. So I guess anything that will stimulate you to "go" might work. I know my OB told me to avoid prune juice b/c in large amounts it can cause contractions. So maybe you could try that instead of castor oil. I wouldn't think White Castles or prune juice would effect the baby like castor oil does. :) Good luck.
