I was just curious as to how many of you actually worked out while pregnant and for how long and what kind of exercises/machines did you do?

I really only did prenatal yoga and I was told to stop at 20 weeks. I would talk to your doctor about what is acceptable for you. I know a lot of moms can exercise further into their pregnancies, but each situation is different.

I'm not allowed to, otherwise I would be out walking, or on the treadmill a lot, lots of stretching. Things like that. Since I normally skate for exercise, obviously I can't do that atm but once the babies are here, I'll be very happy once I can skate again.

I was doing lots of prenatal yoga and some moderate walking. Lately, it seems like I get just as good a workout by going to the grocery store! A lot of my dreams lately have been about me being skinny and in shape again....Soon enough!!!! :)

My OB said I could walk on the treadmill at a slow to medium pace for 20 to 30 minutes 5x a week. This helps keep my back pain very minimal from a prior herniated disc. At this point I can only make it to the 20 minute mark and I am exhausted.

When we first started ttc and fertility treatments my OB and fertility doctor made me stop using the eliptical machine and just walk outside or on the treadmill. I used to workout like a fanatic, but since struggling with infertility issues for 1-1/2 years I weened down to just walking 30 minutes per day.

I had been faithfully going to the gym two years prior to getting pregnant and did a couple of hrs of pretty advanced weight training 3-4 times a week. Also I was up to running 5 mi at a time non stop maybe a couple times a week. When I got pregnant, I was allowed to continue my workouts but under certain guidelines:

    1. Heart rate must remain under 140 bpm (beats per minute)which is sooo easy to reach when prego. i got one of those heart rate watches to keep track...taking longer breaks between sets allowed for this especially when doing leg workouts.

    2. I couldn't get over heated (i think specifically 2 degrees above regular body temp)

    3. I continued to do abs during first trimester only and I would use the machines, mostly, or the yoga ball.

    4. I did not do any excercises where i was laying flat on my back or at a decline, especially after 12 weeks.

    5. Was told to do weights at about 75-80% of my ability, reason being joints start to weaken during pregnancy in preparation for childbirth and you can dislocate a joint doing too much weight.

    6. I stopped running 'cause I couldn't get over the thought of having a baby milkshake in my belly...lol, walked, elliptical, or recumbent bike instead.

I continued until 23 weeks, but my babies were getting too far apart in weight so the doc told me to chill out until they got closer together but mind you my babies were always big for twins. Baby a was always weighing two weeks ahead and baby B was right on what a singleton should weigh at that time, they just didn't like the difference. Now at 35 weeks, baby B surpassed baby a in weight at 5.4lbs and and baby a at 5lbs even. Hope this helps. Just listen to your body and your doc. I have had an uneventful pregnancy, not even thrown up once, and have had no restrictions at all. No previous pregnancies, miscarriages or things that would make me higher risk.

I was still running 5 miles a day until I hit 9 weeks and my Dr said stop, but I could use my Elip in 20 min segments (I use to do an hour a day on days I couldn’t get out to run because of heat or rain). But at 9 weeks my morning sickness go so bad the only excessive I got was walking from my bed to the toilet… then I ran into PTL issues and had even walks cut out… he asked me to even try to nap on days I hit the grocery store… but once these boys are out… I am hitting the running trail again (well gradually…)
