I have been gaining weight at an average rate of 1 pound a week throughout this whole pregnancy and today at my OB appt. I had gained 7 lbs in the past 2 weeks!! My diet has not changed and I have been drinking at least 1-2 high protein shakes a day still. Did anybody stop their protein shakes once they were in the 3rd trimester? I had great BP, no swelling or water retention either. The doctor said I made her wonder if it was their scale because that was very odd for me. I go back next week so we'll see. I would appreciate it if anybody would share their weight gain experiences with me. Thanks!!

I have not had this same experience. But I was wondering if you could tell me the purpose of the protein shakes. I have not been drinking them and I am curious about how they could benefit (or is it too late in my pregnancy?).

    Thanks!

Hang in there with your weight. Since you are not retaining any fluid I would think the same thing as your doctor!

It was recommended to boost protein, vitamin & mineral intake by Dr. Delia as a way to increase growth in mono/di twins in the case of PTL or developing TTTS. So far I have had neither and am thinking that maybe I should cut down. It isn't too late, it will help beef up the babies for delivery. He recommended Boost or Ensure High protein but I use the Safeway brand because of cost and occasionally make my own with Whey protein powder.

Thanks for the answer; I appreciate it!

I didn't even think of drinking protein shakes to help boost the babies weight. My ultrasound last Thursday (just before 29 weeks) showed that Michael (baby A) weighs 2 lbs. 13 oz. and Devin (Baby B) weighs 2 lbs. 11 oz.

I guess those weights are not bad for 29 weeks! I wanted them to be right at or a little over 3 lbs. each, but they are close enough. I just wanted to be able to justify the size of my belly! :D

How has your weight gain been since the last post? I wouldn't worry too much about it!

at my 31 week appointment i stepped on the scale and was horrified to find out i gained 8lbs in 2 weeks. i immediately stopped the protein shakes, definitely didn't need the extra calories and my twins were growing fine and no signs of ttts. at my 32 week appointment i gained 2lbs...much better. my mfm dr. wasn't concerned, he said, "welcome to twin pregnancy!". He also said this is the time when multiple pregnancy becomes much different than pregnancy with singletons! Good Luck!!

well, i'm not that far along yet....only in my 20th week, but at my 16 week appt. i had gained 2 pounds in 2 weeks. at my 18th week appt, i had gained 6 pounds! i guess as long as the overall average weight gain evens out and you're not gaining 7 pounds every two weeks from here on out, things should be ok.
