OMAGA!!!!! My girls throw EMMY WINNING temper tantrums while I try to do ANYTHING with them! Diapers ... I have tried a diaper changing toy, TV, singing, making faces ... I have now began to either change them sitting up or crawling if pee pee ... and literally holding them down with my feet while they scream and wail and kick their legs if poop ... Same with clothing ... it is like I am trying to kill them or something ... they just do not want to sit still ... I mean screaming, throwing themselves on the floor and flopping around tantrums.

I usually read to them then rock them together a few minutes before bed and it has always been fine ... and a good, relaxing, bonding together time ... now they squirm and try to get out of my arms, take the binky out and throw it (then wail that they don't have it anymore), fling their lovey around like they are surrendering (even though they clearly aren't!) and possibly throw it too (and then wail ...) ... I hold a corner of the lovey but they get mad that they can't freely wave it around ... I end up just dumping them in their cribs in a huff of frustration half the time! No wonder they fuss themselves to sleep (EVERY NIGHT after standing and talking and laughing to each other for half an hour ... then they wail like the world is ending ... and sure enough, the lovey and all the binkys are on the floor. I hesitate to let them CIO without these comfort items ... if I go in there ... I give them the binky and lovey and lay them down and kiss them nite nite and leave ... no picking up ... no playing around ... period.

Will they ever get out of this stage and just learn that things like diaper changes and getting dressed are part of life?? Anyone have a bottle of wine I can have?! Hee hee.

oh hon, i am so sorry! i have no words of wisdom but i feel for you. it sounds like a real drag (though, i imagine that this too shall pass, as they say?!). actually, i do have one suggestion. did you read happiest baby on the block by dr harvey karp? i would suggest his happiest toddler on the block. i saw him speak recently and i think his ideas sounds great. we are not there yet, but we're planning to follow his suggetsions when we do get there.

again, i just wanted to send you some support. i know you can make it through this tough time!

Yes, they will learn s-l-o-w-l-y. We are at 18 months and they still fight the diaper some nights but not everynight. Ugh! I totally know how you feel.

They will learn, but I have bribed mine before. We use Pampers, and they love Sesame Street, so they get to hold a dipaer and love on a SS character while they are getting changed if (ok, to help them) be still. One of my twins is really into holding her brush right now, so that is her "treat" during diaper changes. For us, the fidgets come and go.

Good luck finding something that works for you, or at least getting them through this phase.

No help here, my girls are only 6 months...not looking forward to that stage. I will be checking your replies to get me ready for what might be ahead.

We are so going through this. DS HATES to be dressed well just his shirts! He goes crazy. Diaper changes are not fun anymore since they both try to crawl over each other and DD takes DS's diaper OFF! I have to quickly put the poopy one out of reach or they will go for it. I do have one or two toys I keep away and they only get them at diaper changes. Or like I posted in another thread, DH will put his leg over their bellies (with no pressure just a deterrant) and that seems to work too. Other than that I put diapers on standing up and crawling around. Wait till mine start walking...UGH!

same issues starting here. they won 't sit still for a second, they're just rolling all over the place. and marina screams bloody murder when i put her shirts on her, and then proceeds to tell me off afterwards :D

Ditto here! I could have written your post!!
My DD & DS HATE diaper & clothing changes!! I guess that they think they will have to lay down & take a nap or something!!
I sure hope it gets better too!!!!!!!!

It is a tough age, b/c they are too young to reason with. In a few more months you'll be able to make threats and they'll understand! In the meantime, just hang in there and remember that you are stronger and faster!

This too shall pass, but as pp said, quite slowly, so be prepared :pardon: I hated this stage as dd is a breath holder so when she gets really upset she passes out, it happened with several diaper changes

I feel for you. Its getting a little better for us now, but my arm muscles are quite buff from the wrestling matches multiple times a day. The thing that kills me is they don't do this for DH. They lay quietly for him while he changes or dresses them. WTH?!

Mine are the same way -- I feel like I'm wrangling cattle every diaper change! I ususally try to distract them with anything in the vicinity that i can get my hands on -- something they can hold and chew on for a few seconds while i try to change them at warp speed. For little people, they are REALLY strong......
