I know that it is normal for babies to put everything into their mouths. My B/G twins are 5 months old and both of them are obsessed w/ putting their hands in their mouths. They suck on them, lick them, 24/7 it seems. You would think they were hungry the way they do it, but they do it all the time. I don't think they are teething either. Also, everything they have in their hands, goes directly in their mouths too.

It there such thing as doing this too much? or is it just a way to soothe themselves.

    Thanks!

it is totally normal, and NO they cannot do it too much..... [IMG]

they have found their hands and it is a new thing to play with.....an infant/toddler puts things into their mouth to learn about the new thing, it is totally normal.....it is our job as the parent to make sure that nothing that is dangerous go in there (paper, dirt, fuzz, that type of thing) they are just trying to learn!

It's soothing to them, plus babies have a natural oral fixation. They love to put things in their mouths and hands fit the bill most of the time. I don't think there is such a thing as too much unless they never ever take their hands out of their mouths.

Its 100% normal! Our pedi warned us at our four month check up that they would start doing this. He told us to get ready to go through several bibs a day! I just noticed our twins are only a day apart!

    Hey you!
I was reading something that said at this age they put toys, etc. in their mouths to learn textures, etc. Isn't it fun? [IMG]

My ds tries to put BOTH of his hands in his mouth sometimes. I just laugh. The pedit also told us this would be happening so I know it is normal...... and fun!

It is normal and a good thing! If they weren't putting things in their mouths, that would be a problem!
