This is my first pregnancy and I'm currently 18 weeks with twins. I've only gained 11 pounds so far and I just feel like I would have gained more by now. I was not overweight or anything to start with (5'7" and 128lbs), so just wondering if anyone else has gained this little at this point.

My last ultrasound and Dr visit was 3 weeks ago and he said everything looked great. I go for my Level 2 ultrasound this Friday. I've had a lot of problems with being nauseaus quite a bit, so probably haven't eaten as much as I should. I just hope I'm getting enough for the babies. I try to eat as much as I can.

    Maybe I shouldn't complain!

    Any thoughts?

I think it sounds like you're doing great!! Two babies kickstart twice the hormones which equals twice the nausea. It is suggested that we gain 30-45 lbs with a twin pregnancy, most of that coming in the last trimester. If you divide that amount of weight gain into the three trimesters, it seems you're right on track, provided you have that growth spurt towards the end. Enjoy yourself!!!

i'm in my 14th week and have gained 2 pounds.....i had the same concerns as you, about the babies getting everything they need. my doctor told me 'the babies are getting EVERYTHING they need...YOU'RE the one who needs to make sure you're getting enough'....apparently the babies will rob calcium from your bones, iron from your blood, etc...so don't fret about the little ones, but make sure you're taking extra calcium along with your prenatal vitamin!

Everyone gains weight differently. By 18 weeks I had gained about 17 lbs. As long as your OB is not concerned I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi, I too have experienced very little weight gain and my doctors are not worried about it. I am 24 weeks pregnant and have gained five pounds. My doctors have explained to me that the babies will get the nourishment they need. I am sure if your doctor was worried they would say something to you when you go to your appointments.

If your doctor is not worried, I would not worry about it either.

I really never had morning sickness and ate like a cow and I lost weight the entire twin pregnancy (I do with every pregnancy) and as long as the baby/babies were growing the doctor was happy.........as soon as I delivered the twins, I was 27 pounds lighter than before I got pregnant.

With my last baby (singleton) I lost weight the entire pregnancy, and at my last appointment before the birth, I weight 2-3 pounds less than when I got pregnant.....after he was born, I was 25ish pounds lighter than pre-pregnancy.

Like I said, I would only worry if the doctor worried.

I'm 19 weeks and I've only gained 5 lbs. My doc is not worried so I figure if he's not worried I shouldn't either. I wouldn't worry, unless your doc thinks the babies aren't getting enough. But just like the pp said they babies will get what they need and then take from you!

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I am 22 weeks and have only gained 7lbs. As long as they say the babies are doing fine, then I say see it as a blessing :)

My doctor said as long as my belly was getting steadily larger I didn't need to worry about my weight gain. I've gained 21 pounds so far and I'm also 5'7 but started out 10 pounds heavier than you. :good:

I'm almost 18wks and have gained 6lbs..I started 15lbs overweight though....but I'm not doing anything differently...I agree with everyone if your doc isn't worried, and make sure you take care of YOU!!

I'm almost 19 weeks and have gained 11 pounds so far. I was worried it wasn't enough either but my doctor assured me I was doing fine. I also came across this website which calculates pregnancy weight gain based on your pre-pregnancy height and weight and it seems like I'm right in line with what they suggest.

At last weeks 31 week appointment I gained 21 lbs. The dr. isn't concerned and said the babies looked good and good weights.

Thank you for that link! I've been trying to find somewhere how much weight I should gain, with twins, when I was already a few pounds overweight to begin with. Looks like I need to gain a couple more pounds to be at my minimum - off to go have some ice cream! Just kidding...well, maybe!

I saw a friend yesterday and from a distant I could tell that she's pregnant. During our conversation, I found out that she's only almost 2 months pregnant and she looks bigger than me!! To make me feel worst, she's having a singleton, and me, twins!? I felt so terrible and worried. Its been 3 weeks since I last saw my Dr, and now I'm worried if something has happened to one of the twins.

Talk about insufficient weight gain?!

I think you gain a lot more weight later on...like the klast 3 months. I am 17 weeks and gained only 4 lbs. But I look like I am at least 4 months pregnant. I gained 40 lbs with my daughter but didnt even show until almost 4 months at all, so I wouldnt be concerned at all.

That sounds about right. My OB told me that she wanted me to gain between 30 and 50 pounds while I was pregnant. I ended up gaining 49 pounds. Let's just say that I wish I hadn't fallen for McDonald's double cheesburgers--lol!
    Lots of love!

you sound fine weight gainwise to me. I barely gained anything most of my twin pregnancy. I delivered at 32 weeks with a 27lb weight gain. I'm 3 weeks PP and i'm down to -3 pre pregnancy. As long as both babies are growing and there is enough fluid in there, i wouldnt worry about your weight gain, your body will take from other places in your body to make sure the babes are getting what they need. Just make sure you are eating what you can, now before you'll feel too full to eat.
