Just a few basic (& over-asked, I'm sure) questions regarding my almost 10 month old twin girlies.

How many ounces per bottle should they be taking and how often?

How much baby food and how often?

One twin cannot feed herself finger foods. Should I give her purees in its place or feed her diced stuff myself?

How many naps and how long each day?

Lastly, can someone, anyone, please give me any and all teething symptoms?!?!? We have no teeth, but I'm thinking they are about to cut some as they are so fussy, whiny and are on a feeding strike!!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Thanks everyone. These last few weeks have been harder than the newborn stage BY FAR. I cannot keep up with these girls. I dunno, maybe the Christmas tree was a bad idea. :drown:

    1. I think it really depends on your twosome...my pediatrician said the amount you put in their bottles should be their weight divided in half...at 10 months mine were doing 3 -4 bottles a day (I think we were close to 8 oz-9oz per bottle)
    2. I was trying to get them on a 3 meal schedule then, so we did baby cereal and fruit for breakfast, lunch, a snack or two, and dinner.
    3. I would keep trying with the finger foods, give her a little to do herself and also feed her some. You said that your two do not have teeth, so you might find once the teeth start coming in, she might do better with finger foods.
    4. Mine were on two naps at 10 months...1.5-2 hours in the AM and 2 hours in the afternoon
    5. Teething symptoms vary: my two could be fussy, have a low temp fever (nothing over 100), drool a lot, chew on everything, have runny poos, might not be interested in eating
    Hang in there Momma!!!!

    1. It's more the overall amt per day that you need to worry about, but even now they should start easing off on their formula a bit and be taking more solids. I think 20-30 oz is pretty normal at this age, my 2 take 3, 8oz bottles/cups a day but they aren't draining them all the time. I figure they average 20 oz a day.

    2. Again, this depends on the baby. I have good hefty eaters. Right now we do 2 full meals a day. They start with 1 or 2 baby mum mum's each (not packs, there is 2 in each pack). Then they get 2 jars of stage 3 baby food to share (or equivalent in people food). I add oatmeal cereal to any food that doesn't have many chunks in it, to thicken it up a bit for them. Then we finish with some gerber puffs (a couple handful's each), some gerber crunchies, and sometimes a wagon wheel puff or yogurt melts. They aren't crazy about those things yet. And I give them a sippy with water and a splash of juice to play with/try to drink out of. They maybe drink an oz of it, if that. Some nights, they will eat a jar of baby cereal/fruit mixed with several tablespoons of yogurt before their bedtime bottle, just depends on when they get hungry in the evening.

    3. Keep practicing with the finger foods. You can put some pieces on her tray for her to try to pick up and then feed her the rest at the same time.

    4. Naps...we are teetering between 2 and 3 right now. They sleep about 1.5-2hrs consistently for their morning nap. If they only sleep an hour for their afternoon nap they usually need a 40 min catnap before their bedtime bottle. If they sleep 1.5 hrs or more for their second nap then they can make it until bedtime. I'm trying to get them onto 2 naps but sometimes they won't cooperate!

    5. Nancy covered teething pretty well! Pretty much anything that's "out of the ordinary" but isn't directly related to something already. Such as, bad naps = fussy baby. May or may not be teething. But, if they've slept good, and are still fussy, it's probably teething. Mine always fight sleep, wake often overnight, restless, whiny during the day, sometimes a low grade fever, sometimes not. Sometimes diarrhea. Usually, they will drive me crazy for a few days, and then all of a sudden I will see/feel a new tooth and go "OOOohh that's why they were so cranky the last few days!" Hindsight truly is 20/20!!

    1. At 9 months we were doing at least 4 bottles if not 5. Probably about 7 ounces a piece. My kids were always on the high end of the formula intake chart.

    2. We just added the third solids meal so we were doing 3 solids and 4 or 5 bottles.

    3. I did both. I would spoon feed purees so I knew they were getting something and would let them self feed as well once they were ready. At her age, mine were still just doing purees.

    4. We dropped the 3rd cat nap at 9 months and went to 2 naps per day at about 1.5-2 hours each.

Teething, lots of drool, irritability, nightwaking, refusing to eat...are just a few. I would try some Motrin and see if that helps them.

You lost me at Christmas tree. Why is the Christmas tree a bad idea.
Sorry about the teething frustrations. We are getting very close to that ourselves. So far occasional tylenol in the evening has been great but when we start actively teething I've heard that the teething tablets are great.

Leslie- Christmas tree = extra work for me! Lots of pretty, shiny things with lots of pretty, shinier things underneath!!! It's worth it though. Christmas time needs a Christmas tree.

Thanks to the other ladies. Today has been a much better day. This past weekend and yesterday was rough, but today's a new day... for sure.

My girls are at the same stage as yours! Same issue with finger foods. One of my girls will gobble down a whole tray of Cheerios. The other will pick them up and throw them on the floor...will NOT put them in her mouth. She just doesn't get it! She will eat them if I put them in her mouth for her. My girls nurse about 4-5 times per day and have breakfast, lunch and dinner. They still have mostly purees and oatmeal, but I usually give them some of what we are having for supper...(mashed potatoes, mashed carrots, tiny bits of chicken) and some finger foods (gerber stuff, bits of waffles,etc.). Again Sarah loves to eat all of it! Rachael will eat what you put in her mouth...but the rest we find in her high chair! She just cut her first tooth and Sarah has had 2 teeth for quite some time so maybe she will come along with this now.

As for the Christmas tree....I understand 100%. We haven't gotten ours yet for that exact reason. Rachael is into EVERYTHING and SARAH is picking up and eating EVERYTHING and that is not a good combination with a Christmas tree. I think we will wait till next week and then just go for it. My older girls are dying to get the tree so we have to take them into consideration too. I was thinking of blocking off the tree with baskets of laundry. I always have enough of those hanging around!

    Good luck!

Hey girl! Glad to see you were having a better day.

How many ounces per bottle should they be taking and how often?

How much baby food and how often?

The boys and Bella were roughly doing 3 8oz bottles. First bottle around 5:30-6:00a, breakfast around 7:30ish (usually a yobaby with added cereal or oatmeal with the larger jar of baby puree...the boys would have split this...baby girl ate this whole amount...she eats more than the boys), bottle around 10:30, lunch (large jar of food with some puffs, crackers, etc, for each, or each a jar of veggie and split a fruit with that), snack with sippy of water around 2:30, bottle at 5:30, dinner around 6:15ish. That was pretty much my schedule with the boys and Bella. With Bella, she moved off of purees to all table foods around 11 months. The boys were much slower going to all table foods.

One twin cannot feed herself finger foods. Should I give her purees in its place or feed her diced stuff myself?
Give the purees to make sure she's getting what she needs, and then help her with her finger foods. Some babies just take longer figuring out finger foods, self-feeding, etc, while others get it fairly quickly. However, even with Bella who was quick to learn to self-feed, I did not drop purees entirely with her until 11 months old when she would no longer eat them.

How many naps and how long each day?
Okay...the boys at almost 10 months old were still doing two naps...morning around 9-10 and afternoon longer nap around 1-3. Bella started taking one midday nap very early on and has since...but I think she's the exception to rule.

Lastly, can someone, anyone, please give me any and all teething symptoms?!?!? We have no teeth, but I'm thinking they are about to cut some as they are so fussy, whiny and are on a feeding strike!!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
It can range from super fussy for no apparent reason, drooling, a bit of runny poop, chewing on things/hands/bottles, not eating as much, etc. Have you checked or felt around for any swollen areas...they might be getting ready to cut, and it can take a while sometimes.
