I just got back from my ultrasound and Baby A's brain ventricles are at 12 and 13 mm. Up from 11 mm last month. Last month they told me not to worry about the size as 11 mm is at the very high end of what is considered okay. I am a little concerned and stressed knowing they the ventricles have not gone down in size. I see my Dr. on Friday, but until then I am not sure what to think and it really has me worried. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm sorry, I do not have experience with this issue.

Can you email or call either your peri or OB just to talk about what's going on? I know I would not want to worry for a few days unnecessarily.

Well, my Dr. ended up calling me and said he is going to send me to a high risk pregnancy Dr. for a more in depth ultrasound for the enlarged ventricles and He said that Baby B is a measuring a little smaller from Baby A by about 2.5 weeks. Up until this ultrasound they were pretty even. I just feel like it is one thing after another sometimes.

I am so sorry you are so stressed out!! I hope the doctors are able to give you some answers. I did some reading and found that between 10-15mm is considered only mildly enlarged. Did everything else seem fine on the u/s?

I hope it goes well for you!

One of my DDs had enlarged ventricles and a cyst at 20 weeks. The cyst was gone by 28 weeks and she still has enlarged ventricles (at least at last MRI at 1 yr). It never needed any shunts, did not qualify as hydrocephalus- it was 'static'. She does have Macrocephaly (simply a big head) and some extra CSF in the front lobe (per MRI). She was premature, but at age 4.75 she is talking, walking, and doing fantastic!!!! The Neurologist thinks things we have dealt with are related to prematurity and NOT the macrocephaly!

Wanted to give you a happy story for enlarged ventricles- I hope you get some answers soon.

Well that is good news to hear. Thanks for sharing.

I went to the specialist today and he said there is nothing we can do and it is only mildly enlarged so chances are it will be nothing or will be minor issues. He did say baby B's head is measuring smaller than expected, but again said there is nothing that can be done about it other than to keep monitoring the babies. Everything seems to be a "wait and see" game. That is harder than anything....so now we wait for three more weeks!

are your kids di/di? my fraternal twins have totally different sized heads-ds has a tiny one and dd has a giant one. both kids are right on track developmentally. so the head size could (hopefully) be just normal genetic variation.
