I was browsing the baby aisle & noticed Enfamil A.R. for frequent spitter-uppers. I just posted a topic regarding my boys random spitting up episodes & was wondering if anybody is on this?

One of my guys is on it.

It has rice starch in it, as a thickener. It's supposed to thicken when it gets into the stomach. It's thin enough to use regular nipples with (although we had to hop up to Level 2s for it). I've been told it's better nutrionally-speaking than just adding rice cereal to a normal formula.

It's REALLY helped. He still spits, but a lot less. It also doesn't go quite as far when it comes out - usually now we can get by with just a bib to catch it. On an unthickened formula he would be covered head to toe.

I'm happy with it and glad our pedi told us to give it a try.

I did try it with my twins, but they also had a milk intolerance, so a milk-based formula did not work for them. I ended up putting them on Soy with added rice cereal.

Both of my girls are on Enfamil AR and it works great for us. They were spitting up too much on the Lipil so the pedi told us to switch. Now they don't even have to wear bibs, there is literally NO SPIT UP at all.

So glad to read this post. I pump and give the babies breast milk from a bottle. The ped told me that I may want to discontinue giving Molly milk and swtich to Enfamil AR.

I think I'll try it after reading this post. We'll see how it goes!

Ask your ped about it.. We were told not before at least 2 months. Because it has rice cereal in it.

My DS is an all the time spitter upper.. and the only thing that seemed to help is adding rice to his regular formula.
The spitting may also be acid reflux or an allergy.. talk to your ped about the spitting up..

We were on it by the time we left the hospital when they were 4 days old. It sorta of helped but it turned out it wasnt enough.

We ended up on Soy with added rice and oatmeal by about a month old!

Definitely talk to your Ped about spitting up before switching to the AR. Ours had reflux and one could be on the AR and it did help, but the other had a milk allergy and had to go on Alimentum. There are lots of reasons for spitting up so I would notify your Ped if you think its a problem.

I used it for my twins and had good results. You can probably get a sample from your pediatrician.
