Emma was playing in the back yard the other day when she began screaming and crying suddenly. I went to go get her and she was inconsolable. She said her hand hurt so we went inside and washed her hands and I hugged her until she stopped wailing. Finally she told me what happened.

Emma: Mommy, a monster bit me.
Me: A monster! Wait, what color was the monster?
Emma: It was wellow and bwack.
Me: Oh no. :( What did it do after it bit you?
Emma: It flew away to the twees in the town.

Yep, she got bitten by a wasp. Apparently she tried to pick it up. :( I had read somewhere that dabbing toothpaste on a wasp bite for a few minutes makes it feel better so I tried it out and it really does work. Just use regular minty toothpaste. It took away all the swelling and the redness and her hand stopped hurting by that evening.

    Poor girlie!
What a great solution for monster bites! I'll have to remember that. Did it have baking soda in it, because I've heard baking soda takes the stings, swelling and redness out right away as well.

plain white toothpaste is also good first aid for minor burns. That's what people around here swear by and I've tried it and it works.

My son made the mistake of getting too close to a wasp nest last summer....we were at a park/lake and he was on a dock looking at the fishies.....and was attacked and bit EIGHT times on his hand. It was so swollen we couldn't even tell how many bites for awhile. I called the doctor right away and they said to take him to the ER because it was so many. He was fine, thank goodness, but is now deathly afraid of all flying bugs. Poor little guy, you can't blame him.

I just used regular Kid's Crest. I've also heard that about baking soda, but I recently ran out (too much baking!) so I didn't try it.

ahhh, poor Emma. Glad to hear the toothpaste worked. She's lucky the wasp only stung her once. Would have been better in not all though!.... I've heard they don't loose they're stingers and are notorious for stining more than once as in the pp about the eight times. YIKES.
