Embarrassing girls' wiping question

Our DD's are not totally ready yet to start the whole toilet training process - or maybe it's their mom that's reluctant. However they do love sitting on a potty for a while and saying 'pee pee' and 'kaki' (our word for poop) alot. They also love to 'wipe' themselves with toilet paper when they stand up.

I know the phrase "with girls, wipe from front to back" but I'm a little confused as to what it actually means. I've never had an infection and I've always wiped from the middle up for the front and then , using new paper, from the middle up for the back. Is this wrong? Should I be teaching the girls to wipe themselves from the top down at the front? And then what, continue with the same sheet? Use another sheet?

Gosh how embarrassing to have to ask!
    Many thanks

That's a very good question and thanks for asking. I'm curious about the response you get too!

What you are doing is fine! You can teach them either way, the most important part is not to contaminate the front from the back. that can cause horrible infections!

    Happy PT'ing!

i agree. as long as you (they) are not wiping from the back to the front. from what i understand, female parts are extremely sensitive and any kind of contamination can result in urinary tract infections...ouch!

my girls are a little older than yours, and have just recently completed potty training. they are very independent and say they don't need help, but when they say they have to poop, i usually try to peek around the corner to see how they are wiping. they always want to wipe back to front, as it is logically the easiest, i suppose. so i have to reiterate and demonstrate every time. i usually give them a wipe too after poops just in case. i am a little more lax about pee though. but i have started putting those flushable cottenelle wipes in the bathrooms and tried teaching them to use them when they poop. so we are still working on that.

it's kindof funny...potty training. we've finally mastered it, but now they don't flush the toilet. invariably, every time i go to the bathroom, someone has used it and not flushed (LOL!).

and mom's, what's up with there never being and toilet paper when WE have to go??? i guess hubby doesn't know how to do that task?
