This is probably a stupid question, but do you think it is safe to use an electrc heating blanket with a 2 year old? I have not bought one in a long long time, and I am sure they are safer now than they used to be. DS's room is so cold at night even with the sleep sacks and footed jammies. I can't put a little heater in the room because he is in a big kid bed and I don't want him messing with it. As anyone ever used one of these with their kids?

I will try to look into it more tomorrow but I have heard that electric blankets are not good for the immune system.........something about the temperature of our body while we sleep and the effect that has in boosting the immune system. An electric blanket effects our regular body temperature which disturbs that natural cycle. I know this is sounding silly but it might be worth checking into.....not sure how much weight it holds..............

I heard no. I just bought our girls last yer a down comforter along with their regular comforter. Even when I was pg my OB told me no more electric blanket for me. I haven't researched it or anything I just took my OB's word for it. As the same for our girls. Try getting a down comforter.

I belive that it is better to sleep with it being a little cold as long as DS room is not below 65 he should be OK. I really wouldnt use a electric blanket they are not safe and not recommended.

I'm really glad you asked this question. With the weather turning colder, I have actually wondered the same thing. I used to put the heater in their room, but same story here....big beds = no space heater. My space heater turns off if you get too close to it or tip it, but they would have it turned up or off in an instant! So, I have been playing with the heat in the house.

I put them in their footed fleecy pj's and put the heat at 65, but I think tonight I'll do 66. (I have to have my window open because I broil, but that's ok :D)

Personally, I don't think it's safe. I actually think that a space heater with an automatic cut-off (when it tips over) is safer than an electric blanket although I don't think either one is safe with a 2yo. One thing that might help a cold room is to put up heavy insulated curtains over the windows. I have found that this can help a lot.

I have heard that they werent safe either.

I would just do footy pajamas, extra blankets and some curtains like Sue said. You could even put a heavy blanket instead of (or until) you get curtains.

I actually prefer to sleep int he cold. We all do really. We all seem to sleep so much better when it is colder.

Thanks everyone! I agree, I don't think it is safe after thinking it through. THey are in footed PJ's and toddler sleep sacks and I bought a down comforter and also another blanket on the bed. I have heavy curtains in the room already, but we set our furnance to "fan on" instead of"auto." It seems to be circulating the warm area a little better. Diane, I sleep with the window open too because I get so hot!! Ha!

    Thanks!
