I just started giving them orange slices and showed them how to eat the meaty part. But they insist on eating the rind! I am limiting it to a couple pieces each. Is eating the rind going to hurt them? Why in the world would they even want to eat it? My kids are strange sometimes.

William eats lemon rind when we go out to eat. I don't think it will hurt them, but I would limit how many you give them at one sitting. If you want to avoid the problem altogether, just peel the orange before you serve it to them.

No, it's edible and actually has some good stuff in it. Just make sure it's washed really really well.

It's full of bioflavonoids - vitamin C - and it's good for you. I agree, make sure it is washed really good. You might want to think about buying organic too, if you don't already, since the pesticides are sprayed right on the fruit - and wash those as well.

It's considered a delicacy sometimes (though usually candied). But I always think it's way too bitter, even candied!

My boys have recently started to love clementine oranges. I peel them and separate them into segments and they eat them like that. However, the other day one ds was wandering around my kitchen and he found the box of oranges. He promptly picked one up and started biting into it like an apple! He'd already had a few bites before I discovered him. I can't imagine it tasted very good, but he was pretty proud of himself!

Thank you! I did peel a piece each for them at lunch and they got all upset because it didn't have the rind. I did wash the orange, but I'll make sure to get organic from now on. I kept them to three small pieces each, as I didn't want them to get a tummy ache or anything.

I was told that up until a certain age bitterness tastes sweet to babies... who knows...?

careful with organic as well, just because the pesticide is 'natural' doesn't mean its good... Nicotine is one of the best organic pesticides and is horribly toxic FYI

Mine eat rinds of both oranges and lemons, weird... but I guess so do I because I put zest in many of my recipes!

Mine always eat lemons at restaurants (rind and all) and we've never had any problems! I think it's pretty wierd that they like them though!

cameron discovered lemons a couple of months ago and now demands the lemon from my water whenever we go out to eat! silly boy.
mine are pretty good about eating the "meat" out of orange slices, but they prefer clementines right now anyway, and really at home i always peel first - it's only out that we get the sections with the rind.
