Am looking for programs to help beat the heat in the summer. We will already be going to swim at the pool and story time at the Library. What are some other actives to get them involved with at this age that won't break the bank?

    Thanks

Check your city's parks and rec dept. I am sure they have a fairly decent program there. We have taken gymnastics, music, and a traditional mommy-and-me type class through ours (actually, I have taken classes in the neighboring cities too).

Our favorite class is a mommy and me class taken through the school district. It will be out for the summer and so I need to look for something else that is fun and that can fill our time!

At 2 we did a Gymboree and a music class. I always felt that 2 scheduled things a week was good for us. It helped us transition to 2 day a week preschool as 3 year olds.

Ditto on search out park programs in your and surronding neighborhood.

Ours had tales for 2's last year. They'd read a story and then go on a nature walk.

Ours also had lots of free events at a local children's farm. They'd have bunnies there one week and frogs the next.

Also check out petting zoo's(they might charge, but usually not a lot). lakes are always fun, and discount days at local museums.

Ditto on the Parks & Recreation suggestion. Our town has a great program and the rates aren't too bad, definitely much less than Gymboree or Kindermusik or any of those types of things. (Not that there is anything wrong with those things -- but the government-sponsored classes are less expensive! ;)) Ours has musc, art, dance, tumbling, etc., for different ages of kids starting around 18 months. So far we have done a couple of music classes, and I think for the summer we are going to do an art class.

Also check your zoo -- ours (the National Zoo) has lots of little "classes" for 2-3 year olds that are just like $15-$25 each.
