Just chatting to my cousin who has a 7 mth old girl. Right now her daughter has terrible eczema on her face & one leg. She has tried the creams the doctor gave her but nothing has worked. Hannah continues to scratch herself & it is starting to bleed.

If one of your children has had this condition, what has helped for you?

    Thanks!

We only give baths twice a week in the winter, and they get a nice thick lotion right out of the bath. We run a cool-mist humidifier in their bedroom for several hours a day during the winter. We monitor and treat individual rashes with hydrocortisone (OTC) cream. This has not eliminated it entirely, but has reduced the severity.

My twins' eczema was not this bad but I constantly used Aquaquor to keep their skin moist. CVS has a generic brand that is cheaper. We also gave them baths 2-3x a week.

I have one with mild eczema and we use Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Body Creme. We slather it on all the time and sometimes cover it with Vaseline too.

My DD has a very mild case -- I use Cetaphil lotion often, with Aquaphor on the worst spots. And, no regular baby soaps -- only Cetaphil cleanser or unscented Dove soap. She gets a bath every other night.

The ped said we could use an OTC cortisone cream if needed, but so far, we haven't needed it....

We used the steroid cream for 2 days exactly and it cleared things up for the most part. Now we "maintain" by applying vaseline to the area multiple times a day (I do it at every diaper change so I remember), using Aveeno oil in Evan's daily luke-warm bath (hot baths are drying), using chemical/dye/scent-free laundry detergent, only using Aveeno cream body wash, and keeping our home as dust-free as possible. We haven't had a flair up since that first one 4 months ago.
