My daughter also has eczema. We always used eucerin. Like you said, there would be bad breakouts and other times you couldn't see it at all. She is now 12 and we still stick with the eucerin (she rarely has problems). You should ask your doctor... see what he suggests.

I would just use Aquaphor. It works great and its safe. Its made by Eucerin and you can get it anywhere.

My DS has terrible Eczema and we use hydrocortisone .5% and straight vaseline. Our dr. said the hydrocortisone was okay to use but it makes me nuts and I hate to use it. The minute I stop; however, his eczema gets sooo bad again! My doctor did say we should use just petroleum jelly vs. the eucerin cream.

We used the steriod cream for 2 days to get things under control and now we maintain with pure vaseline several times a day (every diaper change, so I don't forget). I also use Aveeno bath oil. Seems to be working.

my son has severe eczema. We use some very heavy duty steroid creams to get flare-ups under control. for minor flare-ups we use 1% cortisone (the ointment...not the cream) and aquaphor. We've used a steroid Flucocinide for the very worst flare ups, which sounds like the stuff you're talking about. I've never seen a side effect from any of the stuff we've used---you're just not supposed to use them for longer than a week at a time.

Cody went to the Dr yesterday & she gave us a steroid cream. I only use it 1 day though. She also gave us lots of samples of aquaphor & eucerin. She also gave us cetaphil for the bath.

We always used aquaphor, and then if it got really bad, we would use the hydrocortisone (over the counter).

I don't remember if we have ever used what you mentioned. But, my oldest son has bad eczema and uses:

    Topically:
protopic (non-steriod) ointment- for the really bad areas
    vanicream -after bathing, all over
aveeno lotion- just on the dry spots through the day

He also uses allergy medicines to prevent the breakouts. It took us quite some time and trying a lot of different medicines before we came across one that didn't burn. (most steriods burn after a while) He's now getting old enough to take care of it himself. It was awful when he was a little baby trying to keep the scratching at a minimum. I hope you find what works for you all quickly.
