I sure hope your little ones will be on the mend fast. Poor things. My question for you is did your babies have the Synagis shots?? Just curious, as my lo's have been getting them this winter. THanks!

We had them last year, but our insurance denied them this year. My pedi is awesome and tried to appeal, but no dice. I would 100% do the vaccine again!

I haven't even heard of that shot. Or if they did get it I totally forgot. I will have to check their baby books and see. I don't think so though. Something like that would have stuck out in my mind. My girls are just over five months. Maybe that makes a difference? What is it? Is it supposed to prevent RSV?

It's the RSV vaccine. We were encouraged to get it since RSV seems to be higher risk to preemies (which my girls were). My doctor has seen such good results, though, that he often tries to get the second year shots covered by insurance as well.

Hmmmm we didn't get that one. I checked their books and I don't have it written down. I have been really good at keeping track this time around. I wonder why we weren't offered the shot?!?!?! Our insurance is really good about covering vaccines. I'm bringing this up when we go in Feb for their six month well check. This makes me mad. There was something to help prevent it and we weren't even offered it!

After some non-communication issues with our pedi while the girls were still in the NICU, we had a sit down. I asked him to explain his views on antibiotics, vaccines, pain management, etc. Then I explained mine. We agreed on most, so we kept him as a doctor. Had we not, I'd have found somebody else. My biggest thing with our doctor is that I want to be able to trust his judgment without hesitation. I think we are very fortunate to have found such a great guy on our first try.

    I'd definitely ask. I'm sorry!

Christinam....it is a series of shots that babies with impaired immune systems (like substantialy premature babies) usually only qualify for. It is a VERY expensive series of shots, costing about 2,000 bucks/vial. So my ins pays about 4-6 grand per month so my babes can have these.

If your babies were pretty much full term they would not qualify for them, unfortunately , which is maddening! ALL babies should get this shot in my opinion. However, that your ped did not bring it up is not out of the norm...he probably just knew insurance would not cover it. Now, if your babies were preemie, then yes. This should have been made available to you. Just a heads up so you are not too mad at your pedi!

ETA...mine were born at 31 weeks that is why they get Synagis

I had a feeling there was a good reason this was not offered to us. My pedi is usually very good about offering us any and every vaccine under the sun. She even wants to discuss flu shots next months since they're be six months.

Our girls were born 37wks and Maddie spent maybe two hours tops in the NICU. Allie never even left my side. We left the hospital two days later. So I am very thankful my girls were very healthy. So that totally explains why I've never heard of the shot.

Thanks for clearing it up for me!!! :)

She sounds pretty much normal today. Sometimes you can hear a little growl in her chest but not hardly like you could a couple days ago. She is playing, eating, and sleeping like normal. My big kids have come down with a stomach bug so sadly the girls are stuck in their room all day. I won't let the big kids near them. But anyway, I had Allie on a mat and she fell asleep playing.

Awww, sounds miserable with the older ones having the stomach bug. That is going around BAD. You are smart to keep the babies isolated!
