hi, i am 20 weeks and saw the ob on monday, my app went well and a scan for fliuds was also good.

I just happened to be looking at the results from te 18wk scan and found that the sonographer has made a note of baby b having a

" small echogenic focus in the left ventricle of the heart, though this is usually an incidental finding " and that "mine was a normally progressing twin pregnancy of 18 weeks"

I googled it and found that it is a soft marker for downs.

My ob has not even mentioned it to me. I had my nuchal fold test and the results came back low risk.

out of trisomy 21, 13 and 18 which one is downs syndrome?

I know i probably shouldn't worry, as my ob didnt even mention this to me, but i can't help but wish i hadn't read the report.

Also my twins are identical, can only one have downs if they are id?

This is the only marker, and it is only showing in baby b, twin a has no markers?

Does any one have any info. I'm not sure if i would have an amnio or not...for the risk of losing the babies, but i don't want to fear the next few months that we will have a special needs child. ...

Tri-21 is Downs. I think if your dr. didn't mention it, that you should try not to worry. I know it's hard. We had a marker for Tri-18 and I was a nervous wreck until the next u/s.

Also, if they are ID, I would think one couldn't have Downs. That's a guess on my part though.

I would call and discuss it with your doc. IT's just not worth the worry you will feel. It is probably nothing if the doc didn't talk to you about it but wouldn't you feel better to have the doc say it's nothing?

If they are ID, they would have the exact same DNA.. which would suggest that they both would or would not have it..

Try not to worry and call the doctor... How are you possitive that they are IDs?

if they're identical, they would both have it. with the cancer that my id's have, we were told by all the dr.s that if one had it and we didnt find it with the other - not to think that he didnt have it but to expect it in the future. They said that if one has it, because they are the same DNA then the other would. Are yours for sure ID? And goign along with the other issue at hand, i would wait and ask your doctor instead of googling things. I made that mistake last week and once i talked to the dr, he made me feel better by saying that htye would tell me - after all, with your twin pg, you are prolly monitored pretty close. Good Luck

My girlfriend had the same issue with her 18 week or so u/s. After the next couple it resolved itself and there was no issue of Downs with the baby.

Echogenic intracardiac foci are very very common and as long as they are the only finding, an amnio isn't even recommended. Also, given that you had a normal serum screen, the chance of any problem is even smaller. So don't worry!

thanks for replying, detected twins in a single placenta with a very thin dividing membrane at 9 wks, u/s at 12 14 16 18 and 20 wks all refer to placenta as single with thin membrane.

so thats identical right? if two placentas fused, it probably wouldn't be thin as they have stated?
