So my boys have never been extremely picky eaters. They have eaten just about anything we give them....except vegetables.

But the last few weeks, both of them are pushing their plates away when I give them their food. And it is their staple favorites (grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly, roasted chicken, pasta, just about anything that I usually gave them). One day they will eat it, the next day they won't. The only thing that they will not refuse is pancakes or french toast sticks and fruit.

Is this common? They are 18 months. I just don't know what is going on!!!!

Sounds normal to me...my two did the same thing...one day they loved something and the next time we made it, they wanted no parts of it. I would just keep offering them food and realize that they will not starve themselves and they will start to eat again. Hang in there, Momma. Eating issues can be tough because they change it up so much!

My girls are doing that a bit now too at 16 months. Super frustrating to prepare what I thought last weeks favoite was only to have it tossed on the floor this week. Lots of friends told me it only gets worse as they form opinions and tastes. Great :)

Yep, it's normal, they are SO changeable right now I don't classify anything they eat as a "fav" food!

It could also be teething, mine have been teething since about 14 months, waiting on their 2 yr molars to come in, but so far, nothing! Wish they'd just pop in already!

I think it's totally normal... and it can be very frustrating. My boys will seemingly love something one day and the next day, spit it out. I find myself putting 10 different things on the table for meals to be sure they each eat a few of them. Like yours, they used to be less picky. I don't even know if it's so much picky as it is being older and having stronger opinions about what they want and don't want. I look forward to the day when they can just tell me what they want to eat.

I just wanted to post something like this...the only difference is, that my boys refuse dinner now. They pick and choose, eat a little bit, then go to bed when the time comes - never finish their dinner - and wake at 4.30 demending food!!!!
I know it's normal, but I have a hard time with it.

Part of me wonders if the reason this is normal is that babies gain Soooo much weight in a year that if kids and adults kept that up that pace people would resemble bowling balls. I think it's Nature's way of slowing down their growth for a time since every toddler seems to got through it. :pardon:

And yes, I can make something they love and get a chorus of No's accompanied by headshakes. It can be maddening.

My daughter is the same way. Son still eats everything. Their 18 mo well baby is coming up and they were a little off their curve at 15 mos so I am really nervous she won't be back on her curve. They will drink an unlimited amount of milk if i let them so doc told me to limit it to 20 oz a day... Which is impossible so we are doing about 25-30 oz a day.

It's all about them having control over something in their lives. It has nothing to do with whether they like it or not and there is no pattern or sense to it. Mine have been doing this since 15 months! Sometimes it helps to let them choose between 2 items...give them the control up front.

Geez...I could have posted this to a T. Only one of mine is doing this. It started about a week ago. The only thing he will eat is the exact same things as yours. But sometimes he will reject fruit too!!

add me to the group who's kids did that! very frustrating. i finally gave up trying to "guess" what they would eat. i gave them a selection of two or three items at each meal/snack & let them eat what they wanted. if they didn't eat anything, well, i just left it out until they got hungry enough to eat it. :pardon: sometimes they did, sometimes they waited till the next meal/snack was offered. now, i tend to be guessing on quantity - one day they'll pack away three to four servings of something, the next day they might eat half a sandwich & some blueberries over the course of the whole day. toddlers are weird!
