So...my girlies are eating their crib. They are chewing the front rail. I went in to get them out from a nap all proud of them because they slept well and were just happily playing up there for at least 15 minutes. I could hear them babbling and laughing...super cute. So the proud mama goes up there and they both have brown stuff on their faces. I instantly think poop!! Oh no it happened to me...they ate poop!!! Needless to say i was relieved that it was just their crib...but come on!!
Does anyone else's darlings do this? Does it stop? How can I stop it????
    Help!!

You can buy rail guards that slip over top so that they can't eat the paint (or the wood for that matter!). Babies-R-Us sells them up here but I'm sure any number of stores that carry cribs would also sell them. We had to get some for DS crib - his didn't have any and he was chipping through the paint like crazy. Not the greatest meal!

I bought a fabric rail guard for DD when she started that at about 11 months. It was too late to save the crib's appearance, but for the sake of her eating paint chips.... It is pink and Velcros over the rail and is washable. You can probably Google it. I believe it was about $12 and comes in a few colors.

Our cribs came with the guard and they just nibbled elsewhere... determined little beavers. SO, while it might work to put the guards on, don't hold your breath. The good news is that the behavior came and went with teething.

Same problem here :) We got fabric ones with velcro (probably the same ones mentioned above). They're made by Leachco.

When they're feeling really determined they can unfasten the velcro, but they still prefer to chew on the soft fabric... no splinters i guess :)

My twins did that too right around 16 months or so. They did it for about a week, then it stopped on its own. I didn't really catch them doing it tho, just found the tops of their cribs all chewed up.

Good luck! They will outgrow it soon!

We bought cribs that convert in to toddler beds and full sized beds. We thought they'd use these until they moved out for college. My DD will have battle scars on her bed. She has completely "beavered" one entire side. I hope she finds it an entertaining story to share with her friends when they ask her in the years to come. ;)

Have not quite had this happen but dd does lick she possibly can, everything including her crib. So I would not be surprised it it does happen one day.
