Eating every 2 1/2 hrs

My twins are almost 5 weeks old and are waking every 2 1/2 hrs or so to eat. How long (if ever) did yours do this? They are 7 1/2 lbs or so right now. I am just looking forward to getting more than 1 hr of sleep at a time at night and am hoping they will move to a 4 or 5 hour stretch at night soon....

 

It may be a while...while some babies do go for longer stretches at night, some will eat every 2-3 hours around the clock. My breastfed babies still eat every 2-3 hours during the day, and they're nearly 7 months old, and this is completely typical. I don't remember when they started stretching the time between feedings at night, but we got up 2-3 times a night for a long time...and were still getting up at least once to feed one of the babies until about 3 weeks ago. Now, they're sleeping from 7:30pm- 5:30/6:30am. It will get better, but you have to hang on for a bit longer.... Hope you're able to get some rest soon!! :hug:

 

Mine ate every 2.5-3 hours right on through their first year (at least during the day ) They did about 4 hours at night at about 12 weeks actual. At 5 weeks I would still be expecting them to wake you at about every 3 hours.

 

Mine were still eating every 3 hours at that age, too. They continued to eat every 3 hours during the day until they were 10 or 11 months & they gradually stretched the times at night until they were finally sleeping through.

 

Around 4 or 4.5 months mine started sleeping from 6pm until midnight, waking to nurse or have a bottle of EBM or formula, sleeping til 3:00ish, eating, sleeping til 6:00 or 7:00.

Hang in there - they'll stretch it out eventually. :hug: It is easy to say that now, I know, that they are 18 months and sleeping all night long.

 

Mine ate every 2-3 hours for the first 5 months. Now they can go 3-4 hours, if I'm lucky. Mine started going 5 hours at night around 8 weeks.

 

Mine still eat every 3 hrs during the day, and they started STTN (about 7-8 hrs) at 3 months old, before that it was every 2-3 hrs round the clock! It's rough for sure!! :hug:

You are also closing on the 6 wk growth spurt, it may seem like they are eating even more often during it, and it can last over a week sometimes! :hug:
