Okay, so what do you do about this lovely habit?? Anthony has just started this lovely little habit and I can't stand it. Even if his nose is just runny he will wipe it and lick it off his fingers!! :bad:

How do you break this one? It doesn't seem like a crime punishable by spanking or time outs, but telling him "NO that's disgusting" doesn't seem to phase him.

    Thanks!

Rhea, I have no idea how to stop that one but I'll be interested to see if anyone has any ideas. Maybe he will just outgrow it? I guess if it were me, I would just keep saying no & hope he gets it. :unknw:

I make my kids go wash their hands every time I see this. Not really a punishment, more a reminder not to do it and that it is disgusting. (This is also effective in a crowd, your kid knows why you are saying it and it does not make a scene for others.)

My oldest picked her nose and actually still does. She doesn't eat it though. I have told her it is gross and that if she wants to pick it she needs to go to private area i.e bathroom and get a tissue. Its finally working and she is 4 and a 1/2.

Blech, mine are doing this now too. I treat it more or less the same way I treat shrieking in the car, or other things that are annoying but not really "bad" -- ignore it, rather than reinforcing it by paying attention. I don't think mine are really old enough yet to understand the concept that there are things we only do in private (not that most of us eat our boogers in private -- at least I hope not) -- and telling them "That's yucky" tends to fascinate them all the more. <_<

Booger habit hit here too! We would just say "Ewww, Gross!" and make a face at my lovely DD, hand her a tissue and tell her to clean up, and walk into another room. At first, she thought it was funny but soon she realized it was not funny.

I just ask them if they need a tissue... my 2.5 year old will sometimes pick his nose and come try to hand it to me!! LOL! I just have him go get a tissue and wipe it there. I've caught my four year old putting it in her mouth sometimes, but usually just reminding her that it's gross, and she needs to go get a tissue is enough.

I have a couple of pickers too. I am so sick of it. I've started grabbing the boogers off their fingers and putting it on a tissue. I am also offering them a tissue but they don't seem like they want to use it. ARG so frustrating!

I like the hand-washing idea. I think we will be trying that one!

Whenever my child (or any other child I see) starts to pick their nose, I tell them t hat's gross, not to do that dna hand them a tissue. Afterwards they must also wash their hands.

With my littlest ones, when I say it's gross I have a noise I make for gross things like garbage or dog poop or any other gross thing they see. I do that noise when I see them pick their nose. They get the point very fast.

 All kids do it! LOL! They do it more usually when they are younger and discover it. I always told them to quit and not make that big deal about it...even though it's NASTAY!!!!

However, there has been a new study...Picking your nose and eating it is healthy for your immune systems! They laugh at me at work because I love sharing tidbits like this with them.

Here's one site. Google it! http://www.kidzworld.com/article/4361-is-p...it-good-for-you
