Our boys are now 5 1/2 months old. We have recently started feeding real food as well as formula. They are eating great but it doesnt seem to keep them full for long. They both eat one package apiece of the gerber 2nd stage (bigger container). How often are you all feeding and what are you feeding to keep them fuller longer. Should we feed them more? Thanks I am new to the forum and it might be somewhere else but couldnt find any answers.

How much formula are they getting? My kids started solids at 6 months, and at that point, they were getting around 24-32 oz. a day of formula (24 for the little guy, 32 for the big guy). By 7 months, we had worked up to three "meals" - rice or oatmeal cereal mixed with fruit for breakfast, and then they would have veggie and fruit (1/2 container each) for the other two meals.

Are you feeding the solids all at one time? If you are doing it all in one "meal", you might try adding a second meal, or splitting it between two meals, assuming they are getting enough formula, too (you don't want to give them too much solids and have it really cut their formula - formula is the most important at that age).

Also, when are your solids fed in relation to your bottles? We always did solids about midway between bottles, but I know others do solids after bottle or bottle after solids. You might try changing that up a bit to see if it helps.

Be sure you are not trading formula for the baby food. One container of baby food is close to 70 calories so you don't need to reduce their formula intake by much if any. They still need all the calories they can drink. If they are too full to drink the bottle try giving the, the bottle 1st or give them the baby food in between feedings.

The are roughly getting 30 a day. We havent really substituted the veggies for formaula just added to it. I thought that the solids would keep them fuller longer but it doesnt seem to be working out like I thought. They are taking the solids between bottles. Should we be adding a bottle of formula with the solids? THanks for the response

Will do thanks for the tips

If they are getting 30 oz a day, you probably don't need to add any more formula. The usual suggestion for that age is 24-32 oz. from what I recall.

You could add another serving of solids - like fruit or cereal. If you are only doing one meal of solids, you could add it as another meal and have two meals of solids.
