for those of you that had your girls' (or boys, whatever) ears pierced or are going to, at what age did you get them/are you getting them done? i had mine done when i was 7 months old, so i'm thinking that will be a good time. the pedi said he'd do it, all i have to do is bring in the supplies.

When they are old enough to decide (which is what my parents did) for themselves. I was 7 when I wanted my ears pierced. Mine notice jewelry, one more than the other (they are 5), so I think it won't be too much longer.

I did my older DD's at 8 months, and my younger one's at 5 months. I think it's easier to get it over with when they're too young to be aware, sort of like circumcision (although we opted not to circumcise DS, LOL).

    No problems with either kiddo...

we won't do theirs until they want them done. I think earings on babies are cute but DH doesn't, so I will not fight him on this minor issue!

I just got Natalie's done and she is 3 months old. She barely even cried. i chose sooner rather than later so she would not pull at them.

We're going to wait until DD is older - 4 or 5, when she asks for it.

We are waiting with Meghan. I want it to be something that we do together when she is older. A girls day out. Neither I nor my husband wants to have them done.

If mine want their ears (or noses, or eyebrows - kidding!!!) pierced when they're older, we'll make a fun day of it. But I'm leaving it up to them.

My girls probably will want noses, etc (and tattoos since Mommy is covered in them)! I'll probably have to cross that bridge relatively early, lol.

I don't have girls but I (my ears) were done when I was about a month old. My mom said I was asleep in the doctors office and I didn't even wake up when he did it and she said by the time I figured out I had ears she was past the point where she had to keep cleaning the earrings for infection.

I think the younger they are the better, I think babies with little gold balls or little hoops are so adorable! If I could pierce my little boys ears I would!!

My girls won't be getting them done until they can take care of them by themselves!! LOL! I don't even have time to stick earrings in my own ears, let alone theirs!!

I was thinking about doing it when it is safe. I thought it was 3 or 4 months. I was going to ask pediatrician about at their next visit. I am wanting to do it more so I can have them pierced with different earrings, so I can be sure I don't mix them up!!!

We had our girls' ears pierced at about 7 or 8 months. It was easy as pie. It was actually my husband's idea! We were in the mall and passed a Piercing Pagoda and he said, "let's do it." We had been kicking around the idea (esp since many strangers always thought one of my girls was a boy) and we just did it that day. No hoopla whatsoever. And I was worried they would pull on each other's ears, but they never did.

I had said before they were born that I wanted to get their ears pierced as babies. I didn't get mine done until I was about 13 and I was so scared. My 15 year old niece is STILL too afraid to get her ears pierced. She's afraid of needles. My mother thought it was a silly idea to get them done on babies, but now she's changed her mind, she said, and she loves it.

I had Lilly's done around 8 months. Our pediatrician did it in his office. He suggested we wait until after 6 or 7 months so the ear lobe is big enough. It was nice... he had the earrings and kit to pierce them at his office. I was a lot more comfortable having the doctor do them than some girl working at Claire's. (no offense to Claire's... that's where I had my older daughters' done!)
One thing to remember... I wanted them done early so she would be too young to notice them and hopefully leave them alone, like I had done with my older girls, but I didn't keep in mind that Jack would see them. He likes to poke at them. So while she doesn't know they are there, I have to keep a close watch on her brother so he doesn't pull on them.

In my family, girls have always gotten their ears pierced really young. Usually before 6 months old. That was my plan until I had two babies. I decided I did not want to deal with two sets of healing baby ears. So, I'm waiting until the girls are old enough to want it.

I had DD's done at 9 mos but they fell out in the crib one night and closed up - I need to get them re-done although now at 20 mos its going to be ALOT harder!

We are waiting until the girls ask us. Like some pp, we'll make it a 'girls day' and get them done. I remember doing this with my mom when I was 8 and I'm looking forward to doing it with my girls too.

Our pedi said to do it at our 9month appt if we wanted to have it done. The doctors office does it, and she said it is better to wait until they are a little older and the ear lobe is a little bigger. She said she had seen some kids who had it done too soon, and when the ear lobe grew the earring wasn't in a good place, and they had to re-pierce.

I'm still on the fence. I'm not sure that I want to deal with taking care of it. Also, I didn't take into account like a PP said, it might not bother her, but Jake might start grabbing at them!

I just love the au natural look of babies. They only get to be their sweet unadorned selves for so long before we start fixing them up and I just want to enjoy them looking just like they do. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to fix hair and do all the girls stuff - even ear piercing (when they can have a say in it) but for now I think they look just yummy!

I was a Nanny for identical girls and we had one pierced with the birhtstone and one with diamonds (aprils birthstone). Never again did we have trouble telling them apart. Before that it was SOOOOOOO hard.

They looked so cute with them.

When my DD was born I tried to get them done right away but was told I had to wait until after the 1st tetanus shot. We did them as soon as we could and she has never touched them and neither had Thomas. Of course they are only 6 months old right now and do not really grab small thing yet, so we shall see.

Maribeth and Alexandria (ID twins) Never had issues either. They did not touch them or pull them in any way!

I agree with pp in that I think babies look perfect au natural. I don't want my babies looking too grown up, too fast. I also think that getting ears pierced when the girls ask and then having them help in taking care of them is a good lesson in responsibility and almost like a rite of passage. We will be waiting until at least 5 years of age.

We are waiting til she asks for it. I used to pierce ears at Wal-Mart and from that viewpoint, it's too risky. I would say a third to a half of the babies pierced did not end up well. Either the piercing was off-mark, infection, babies pulled at it, and even in one case, scarring. When I got my own traguses pierced, I thoroughly researched it and I am just too afraid of the risks myself.

Yes, I have seen that happen as well. We pierced a girl perfectly one time, she was 6 months old. Brought her back in 3 months and it was way off. Her lobe had grown different, so it skewed the original piercing.

And there's also the issue called "blow-out." Bad stuff.

I got my girls done when they were 6 months old. They just cried for a second or two and that was the end of it. Since they weren't the point where they were touching their ears, etc, it was cake! I cleaned them when they woke in the morning and before they went to bed and it's been 2 years since then and no infections. I've only changed them maybe twice (which is challenging) but I can't find anything that stays in as well as their original studs, so we are back to those.

With this baby, I would like to get hers done at 3 months...or I might wait until 6 months. I haven't decided yet!

Savannah was 6 months old... She had her 6 month shots, RSV shot and then we had her ears done. She was fine, no problems at all... No infection, and they look perfect and i am so happy with my princesses tiny pierced ears... :)

It's their ears, it should be their decision to get them done or not. I wouldnt want anyone making decisions about permanetely making a hole in my body!
