Early 2nd molars?

I'm beginning to suspect that there may be more to this disrupted sleep pattern than Trent quitting his thumb. They are both drooling a bit and chewing on everything (including the old teething toys at the bottom of the toybox which they normally ignore). I looked up the timeframe for 2nd molars and the ADA site listed 21 months as the early end of the range. They just turned 19 months. They got their first molars at 13 months which is the very beginning of the normal range for them. I'm not excited at the prospect of this madness continuing for two more months!

Anyone's kids get their 2nd molars early? How early? Did it take a long time for them to come in? Was the teething hard on them?

Sorry, I'm no help! Gabe didn't get his 2nd set of molars until he was 2 1/2!

Has your little one's got their fangs already? It seemed that Gabe got his first molars, then his fangs, then his 2nd molars. The "fangs" were harder on him than any other of his teeth.

When Gabe did get his 2nd molars, his eating habits went way down for a week or so, but he seemed to tolerate them well.

I had no idea when it was SUPPOSED to happen, bet we had a MOUTH full (on my son) by 24 mos. He's even getting another further back molar now! (Where I didn't think there was room before, but now there is) His hand is firmly planted in his mouth most of the time and Ali's getting another eye tooth too. It just never ends!

My older dd got her last molar at 3.5!! Hers came in so slowly... I never noticed much except she was a little more cranky..but usually it took a lot time for me to put together her irritableness along with the reason why...
My ds was really chewing on things a month ago...and he had lots of poops for about a week...so I thought maybe he was getting a molar...but sometimes the tooth doesn't pop in until a few weeks after the symptoms stop. I haven't been able to get into his mouth to see if one came in or not... :p In any case I don't think 19 months is too early... a little early maybe...but they might not actually show up for another couple of months anyway..

Elizabeth got her bottom 2 year molars over a month ago and Grace is getting hers now. They really have not had much problem with the molars compared to the incisors. Those were difficult. I did not even realize Grace was getting hers until she opened her mouth really wide one day. :p

Are the incisors the same as the "fangs" -- which I assume means the ones just to the outside of the 4 middle teeth?

No sign of the 2nd molars here yet (it sounds like 17 months would be waaaay early), but FWIW, Sarah had her first molars by the 12-month checkup. Amy is just getting hers now. They didn't seem to bother Sarah at all -- she got all 4 at once.

Their first molars came in before the fangs but not by much and the fangs were much, much worse (slow to erupt and really seemed to bother them).

I guess I'll just try dosing Trent with Tylenol before bed tonight and see if he at least sleeps well until the stuff wears off. Then, if he sleeps well for about 6 hours before stirring, I'll know it's pain that's disrupting his sleep rather than the confusional arousal thing that occurs in the early part of the night when his sleep cycle is out of whack. It would be so nice if he could just tell me what's wrong. :(

My girls had their first set of molars and their eye teeth by 18 months. I have been suspecting 2nd molars for awhile now. Haven't seen any yet and when I try and check, I just get bit and they think it's funny. So, no more finger checking. Reagan has a horrible rash under her bottom lip b/c of all of her drool and when she sucks her thumb it makes it even worse. We put Aquaphor on it at night to kind of seal it b/c it gets SO wet during the night. For my two though, Molars weren't bad coming in and neither were the rest of the teeth. The ones we realy had problems with (night wakings, bad naps, etc) were the eye teeth. Those were horrible!
