I'm not sure in which forum this should be posted.

I'm curious how early some TS'ers had their twins, but didn't need NICU time. Just looking for some inspiration to help pass the time on hospital bedrest.

Gestation doesn't necessarily have anything to do with NICU time. Mine were born at 36 weeks, they weighed 6-2 and 6-10 lbs. My bigger one was sent to the NICU--although he was only there 36 hours and came home with us. Just remember that every day you can keep them in at this point is about 2 days less of NICU time!

You are almost 29 weeks! Great job! The emotional roller coaster of a twin pregnancy can only be further compounded by bed rest. Hang in there, try and stay positive, you are almost to your weeks in the 30's!

One thing that has helped me, is I set little goals. When I hit 28 weeks, I was thrilled to know the survival rates shot right up, then 30 weeks, then 32 and here I am at 34 weeks today. My next goal is 36 weeks :) Try and educate yourself about the babies development at each two week interval and the pro's and cons of delivering at that stage. It will help bring some balance to your feelings, at least it has for mine :)

Just thought I would share a little something that helps me get over the 'hump'. I have my moments too, this is hard.

Big hugs to you and your little beans! xojillian

I ditto pp. Mine were born at 38 weeks via scheduled c/s. One was 6lbs13oz...the other 6lbs3oz. They were born on Thursday afternoon and Saturday evening the smaller one ended up in the NICU-for a week. He's totally fine now-but you just never know. He had fluid on the lungs...they couldn't rule out pneumonia so they treated him for it-thus the 7 day stay...

  5. Mine were also 36 weekers that spent time in NICU...you never know. They also were weighed a pound less than the ultra sound the day before when they were born. Each day they can stay in is best, but setting goals (28 weeks, 34 weeks, etc) do help you feel like youre progressing. HTH!

I know someone that delievered at 34 weeks with no NICU time, but she had st. shots. Each baby is different and I agree with everyone else...try to focus on milestones. I am THRILLED that we have made it to 32 weeks. I know it is hard. If you ever need to vent or need someone to just talk to feel free to PM me. Trust me, we all have our days.

I would say that 34 wks is probably the earliest that it "could" happen, but I wouldn't expect it. A baby could just as easily end up in the NICU for a couple weeks at 34 wks too. You're doing a great job meeting each milestone! I go over all of the same things in my mind daily. Every week, every day even is a huge step!

I have heard of women delivering at 34/35 weeks with no NICU time. However, mine were at 34 weeks and even with steriod shots, they were in the NICU for 17 days b/c they were small and couldn't hold body temp and were having difficulty with their feedings. They needed no other medical or breathing assistance though. Just growers adn feeders.

It's different with every baby. My SIL's first DS was born at 40w2d and was emergency c-section and needed 1 week of NICU time and O2 hood b/c he had a collapsed lung. There was also a boy in the NICU with my girls...born at 38 weeks who wouldn't eat from a bottle to save his life. he was there for a week before it finally sank in.

So, anything and everything is possible, so that's a really hard question to answer. But, you are at 29 weeks...keep it going!!!!

I had mine at 35wk 1day.No nicu time.I did have steriod shots though.Ds weighed 5.14 and dd 5.8, but dd went down to 4.12. They also both had jaundice. I do know how uncomfortable and tired you are. But think of the babies, the longer you bake them , the better. Being on this site helped me alot. The women are wonderful!!

I've had 3 35wkrs no nicu. My neighbor just had her baby boy after thanksgiving who was due in January at 34wks with brief nicu. If she'd had a vaginal he would have had to stay longer but because she had an emergency C he went home with her after 5 days.

    Hi,

I've seen plenty of posts of people with 35 weekers that had no NICU time. It really depends on the babies like pp has said. Mine were born at 38 weeks with no NICU time. However, as standard procedure for a twin delivery a NICU team checked them as soon as they were born. I had a vaginal delivery and they went home with us 48 hours later fortunately, but it seems there are no guarantees. Like other pp mentioned, I really went by milestones: 24 weeks, 28, 30, 32 and so on. That's a good suggestion. Just wanted to say you're doing great Beth :) .

It really depends on the baby (and the gestation). There were some full term babies in the NICU with my DD's.

I had the boys at 34+2 and they were only in the NICU for two days as feeders/growers. I did not receive any steroid shots.

I totally agree. Mine spent 8 weeks in the NICU and came home when I would have been 35 weeks pregnant. I had the steroid shots. But there were lots of babies in the NICU when we were there, that were born after my two (gestation wise) and they were much worse off and were in the NICU longer.
