Our girls, more Izzy then Abby, pick up their plates and dump them and then start banging them on the table. They are not finised eating when they do this - they will continue to eat after the food has been dumped, once I take the plate away.

Should we just forget plates for now and try again later or keep trying now?

if you ask my MIL, she would gasp and say how horrible that they eat off the tray. so i got the suction cup ones for when she's around. if you ask me, the tray is good enough, and one less thing to wash, since they are just going to dump it anyway LOL

I just started giving mine plates about 2 months ago. I still have one that will eat about half off the plate and then dump the rest on the tray. I dont make a big deal out of it. I dont think he will do it forever. :D

I have been giving my girls the plates with the suction for about 2 months now and they manage to take them off the tray. I have noticed that they last much longer then they did in the begining, i am hoping they will eventually leave them there, so I keep trying. Good Luck

That is so funny! My mom is absolutely horrified my boys eat off the tray. I absolutely know the plates would go flying! I'm not trying it until either they understand things better or I get a dog to clean up the mess (not sure which will come first...and I told them they would get a dog when they are seven!).

Using plates isn't even on my radar screen of what's next and my girls are 16 months! I would say wait and try again later :)
