Okay, so most of you know I am a pharmacist. Well, it seems lately that women here have been getting some conflicting info from doc's and pharmacists. Then today at work this women comes up to me and told me her doc told her to get Sudafed for her ear infection (also on antibiotics), but that two pharmacists told her she can not take while bfing. They did not say anything to her about supply, they told her it can harm the baby and she should not take it. WTF?! Can you say misinformation <_<
I can guarentee they looked it up in a book and it said use with caution, so instead of researching it further (which they should do as we get this question ALOT), they told her not to take it  to cover their a$$es.

This is the kellymom link for those that are interested.

I told her she CAN take it, but to only take 1 pill a day until she can see how it affects her supply. This women was in SERIOUS pain from this ear infection...those dumb pharmacists!!!

Kristi, that's got to be so frustrating for you!

Drives me bananas and I'm not a pharmacist!! I have my own frustrations with other nurses at times ;)

This thread makes me want to tell my pharmacist how much I love her. She's very knowledgeable, but has offered to research things for me in the past when she didn't know what was going on with Roman's purple spitups. AND, she has offered to bring our medicines to the house because she knows I'm busy with the twins.

She is awesome. She would never tell me not to take anything without suggesting an alternative.

I thought it was special when my pharmacist told me I could take valium for my back (after car accident) as a muscle relaxer....it was better than flexeril for BF according to her. I looked it up and it is a linked SIDS risk for BF babies. Neat. Needless to say, I took a hot bath and advil.

Lucky we have smart Pharms like you Kristi.
