Duct Tape Anyone?

I knew it would happen. I knew it was part of this grand thing called motherhood. I just hoped it would be a little longer.

I put the kids down for the first nap and both went to sleep. I heard them start to chatter and play about an hour later, but I just left them upstairs since they were happy. (And I was hoping they'd fall back to sleep and nap a little longer!)
Well, Dh left for work and I went upstairs to get them. By this point they were starting to get a little louder.

I walked in the room and turned the light on. As I got further in the room I smelled poop. So I asked, "Who has a poopy diaper?" as I walked to open the blinds.

Then I saw her. And it.

My darling little girl, the one who screamed the first time I let them play in sand, was covered in poop.
    No, really, she was.
It was all over her face, hands, feet, behind her ears for crying out loud.
It was all over her sheets and the railing to crib. (After all she was laughing and having a grand time as she's learned to pull up on her knees and "dance.") It was all over her lovey.

Oh, her diaper was still hanging on by one tab.

I just stood there for a full minute as both babies were just babbling to me. I honestly didn't know where to start.
I finally got some of my senses back together and went downstairs and pulled the pnp in the living room and put in a Baby Einstein DVD. Went back to get Jason and stuck in him the pnp. I set up the tub in the sink (we're still doing the infant-tub-in-the-sink routine) and got some towels ready.
Went back upstairs and carefully removed the diaper (still had some poop left in it!) and threw that away.
Now, some might judge, but I picked her up under her arms and carried her just like that down the to tub. She might be happy to be covered in poop, but not me!

I got her cleaned up and put her in the pnp with her brother. The sheets and blankets and her lovey are now in the washing machine (with Clorox for colors) on hot and an extra rinse. I still plan to wash them again with the rest of the dirty clothes when this cycle is done.

I have no doubt they were in this together. They are conspiring against their mommy!

And I know I washed her twice, but I swear one of her ears still smells like poop.

Oh how gross! I don't even know if I could have picked my kids up under the arms! I would have taken one of dh's gym towels and wrapped 'em up! Although I have boys and have a huge fear of pee on my walls. Was she wearing pants/shorts? No matter what the weather, my kids ALWAYS wear pants to bed. I'm too afraid of your situation. Please tell me she wasn't wearing pants!! ;)

I think you handled yourself very well! Make sure you get a drink tonight after the babes are in bed!

I just read your whole post aloud to DH and we are both rolling laughing!!! :rotflmbo: So poignant and well told. We can see it so perfectly - the whole scene. You poor thing. I don't know that I would know where to start either. You need a spa day in return for that. :clapping:

Oh Gina, that's horrible! I haven't had that experience yet and not really looking forward to it although our girls used to projectile poop occasionally if they weren't done when we started changing their diapers. I almost got hit a few times!

I dread this. I am so sorry that this happened to you. I really think I would have gotten DH to handle that (my luck he wouldn't have been home), he's a cop and he's seen worse :)

i never EVER let my kids hang out in just their diapers for more than 5 minutes! my mom told me i tore up my diaper a few times, so i'm not taking any chances if my girls are anything like me

Yup - that's baby book material for sure! Ok, you have now convinced me that the babies are NEVER napping or sleeping without pants/shorts or something overtop of their diaper!

I did the same thing. I read this to my DH and we are both laughing hysterically. I'm not looking forward to this day!

My kids never go without pants or shorts. And the one DD that did play in her poop twice wore zip up jammies to bed both at naptime and bedtime. I would then use a kid proof saftey pin put it through the zipper head and lock it so she couldn't unzip during nap. I did this for over a year with her...just to be safe :)

That would so be me. The first time they did something like that they would go into the impenetrable clothes or I really would pull out the duct tape!

You told that story well-I was able to picture the whole thing, and sorry...chuckled a bit!
I hope you are having a good day-you deserve it!
