My DS is 16 months and 31 lbs. He's getting about 16-20 oz. of toddler formula and water during the day and is a really great eater. Both he and DD go to bed around 8pm. DD will sleep straight through the night until 9 am. DS on the other hand has been waking up around 3-4 am nearly every night for the past month, at which time I give him a 7 oz. bottle. He then goes right back to bed and wakes up at the same time as his sister.

I know he likes the bottle and I'm sure it is soothing since we've phased out all but one bottle during the day (the nighttime bottle is an extra one for him). He's also a big boy and could clearly be hungry and going through a growth phase. Should I let him cry it out when he wakes up and hope that he doesn't wake his sister so he learns to settle himself down? I fear I'm creating a monster by not giving him an opportunity to soothe himself back to sleep, but I don't want a hungry boy holding us hostage either. Ugh!

Do any of you still have 16 month olds and beyond waking for night feedings on a regular basis?

    Thanks so much!

if I had to guess I would say he isn't really hungery. My 18 month old is just 20lbs and sleeps through the night. He has his moments when he wakes at 11 or 12 and I go in and get him and he sleeps on my chest for like 20 minutes then back in bed and I am pretty sure its teeth. I would go on and start taking that middle of the night bottle away. Sounds more habbit than hunger. Start watering it down, 6oz milk 1 oz water and so on until its totally water. Not only should he be able to either self sooth or sleep all night without feeding but it is bad for his teeth to drink milk or formula and then sleep without brushing his teeth or very least wiping his teeth off with a wet cloth.
