DS still getting legs stuck between crib slats!

My DS is 21 months old and is a wiggly little man. He still gets his legs stuck in between the crib slats when we put him in for a nap or bedtime. Sometimes he gets so stuck that he screams and even I have a tough time getting his leg un-wedged.

His legs are all bruised from this happening over and over. I have a crib bumper on but it does not help - he just puts his leg over the bumper and pushes down and out.

He is not ready for a toddler bed yet - he would just fall out or play and not sleep.

Any suggestions or do we just wait it out until he stops doing it? He's been doing it for months.
    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried taking the bumper out? Maybe he's playing with it when he gets his legs stuck.

The Cozy Crib Tent II goes all the way down to the mattress, so nothing gets out between the bars. They don't fit all cribs, but if you have a pretty standard crib, that might work. Kind of pricey though.

Well, I broke down and ordered the crib tent. I can't wait till it gets here to try it out. I am so afraid he will fall out or really get his leg hurt. I tried no bumpers, but same problem.

I'll let you girls know how the tent works out when I get it.
    Thanks!!

Tents ended stuck legs around here (as well as lost blankets and climbing out)... :good:

If you want the same effect as the tents without the cost/need for a 'canopy', you could easily mock up a fix. Have you ever seen those 'breathable bumpers'? If you got some fabric and cut it to size (so it would be like a super-tall version of the breathable bumper) you could weave it in and out of the slats preventing further limb destruction.

(The link shows a breathable bumper that goes all the way to the top of the slats. I'm pretty sure that your son couldn't smush it all the way down without some great flexibility/strength...but then I've said that MANY times about my own children only to be proven wrong.)

Sweetpeag - I like the suggestion of making a full size cloth bumper myself. I may give it a try.
I have the breathable bumper in the link you posted. I believe it looks like it is the full height of the crib, because in the photo the mattress is all the way up at the highest setting for an infant. Our mattress is as low as it goes so the bumper is less than half way up. If they made one full size I would definitely check it out!! :)

Ah, I thought that was odd b/c I'd never seen one that was 'tall' like that, but just happened to google 'breathable bumper' to give you an idea of what they were and was surprised to see that.

I don't think it would be a difficult project...and if you made it yourself you might be able to find something in the fabric store that would allow your son to see out of his crib too.
