Ds has now started rolling over in his crib during sleep. He wakes up several times a night now crying b/c he is on his back or belly. I have started putting him on his belly to sleep and he does ok, but still wakes up crying wanting to roll on his back. It's the same if I start him on his back. He can't quite roll from his belly to his back yet, but is able to turn his head from side to side on his belly. I am getting very sleep deprived..he did this every hour 2 nights ago!! Any suggestions??

I don't have any suggestions . I'm sure someone will. It's definitely just a phase though .

Don't think there is a lot you can do to combat this. My daughter did exactly the same thing, and all we could do was turn her back over repeatedly. It was only a phase though, she took around 3 weeks to learn about going from tummy to back, so its not a problem anymore...but now she is practising trying to sit in her sleep!

sorry for your lack of sleep! my only advice is to help him practice rolling during the day a lot so he'll get better at it and hopefully won't wake up crying during the night...

We are going through this exact same thing!
One sleeps on their back the entire night, basically doesn't move.
Our wiggly one has started rolling over on her stomach and then starts crying until
    we come in.

This week starts the 3rd week of this craziness. They were sleeping through the night so
beautifully and then bam, I'm up 3 times a night! I will say it has gotten a little better because
now I'll look at the monitor and notice she is on her stomach and she did it without a sound. Before
she was moving her head everywhere not knowing how to place her cheek on the mattress!

I have noticed that during the day she plays a lot on her stomach. She must like it!

Thanks for your responses ladies. I haven't felt this tired since they first came home. I was hoping it would get easier, but it seems to be getting harder. Oh, but seeing their smiles makes it all worth it! :D

Put him in a baby sleeping bag to sleep (it has arms but zips up the front). Mine sleep that way and cant really roll as they dont have the mobility! The night I didnt use one (it was drying!), DS got onto his belly and was shouting for help! A great invention for keeping them cosy & warm but still!!! :D

All of my kids went through this phase. The first few times they did it, I 'showed' them how to get back over, but after they were on their own to figure it out. There was a lot of crying, but it only took about two weeks for them to figure it out.

My kids did the same thing a couple months ago (& I posted about it too!). I actually let them CIO and after a few nights.. they won't sleep any other way except on their tummies!

My DD1 is doing this all the time too.. but she rolls over, fusses for a minute and then falls asleep [thumb in mouth, head towards the corner of the crib and right hand pulling down on the bumper, lol. it's kinda cute]. She doesn't sleep as long as DD2 cause when she wakes up she has a more difficult time falling back asleep. I come in the room and she's doing the swimming thing and is cracking up laughing at me..

It's weird. They've both been rolling from tummy to back since 10 wks old. THey know how to. Maybe it's just different being in the crib with blankets.
